I'm pretty sure it is. The booklet seems to only cover current format numbers, not prefix-style numbers.

I respectfully disagree :) 5 characters x 50 mm = 250 mm 3 spaces between characters x 11 mm = 33 mm 1 space between groups x 33 mm = 33 mm 2 margins x 11 mm = 22 mm -------------------------- Grand total of 338 mm. Myself, I'm going for A1 AAA format, as I really want 12x6 plates on my Mustang.

Well, not really, unless the number is a 1. A US-sized plate is 305 mm wide. Correctly sized and spaced, a 5-digit number takes 316 mm. And you need a margin of 11 mm either side on top of that.
