Sorry about the damage, but it could have been worse. I hit a deer going 70 in my VW Touareg TDI a couple years ago. Cost $27,000 to repair and took several months to get parts from Germany. What a pain!
I've owned two convertibles with glass rear windows by other manufacturers and never experienced anything like what you are describing. I'd get it checked.
HUD as safety feature
I have HUD on my 3 series. It's a great safety feature because I can see speed and navigation without looking down or to the side. Having had that for the last couple of years, I would certainly be willing to pay for it, assuming it is well executed. Not a deal-breaker...
