I always felt like this was a 1” drop because it looks equivalent to other 1” rear drop springs. I was shocked at first with how low it is. I expected the rear to have a gap like the front. The car is sitting level. I’m not surprised I’m having bump stop issues because this rear drop is lower...
Thank you both your continued responses, suggestions and words of encouragement.
If only it were easier to make adjustments on the fly.
Matt I’m concerned about the impact of cutting off the black ring. However, if I do cut off the section above it I might have to get rid of the black piece...
When I was at my dealer having the tech look things over he said there was a “finger width” so 6/8ths of an inch space between the top of the shock body and the bump stop while on its wheels.
The rear OE bump stop is 3 inches tall
I cut off 0.625” (as per BMR)
Total bump stop height 2.375”
We...
Oh my god man you have NO idea how much this helps. This makes complete sense and I wish I would have contacted KONI before hand to know this. There is no instruction whatsoever that comes with the dampers, nothing listed on their website or ever mentioned publicly and nothing on the vendor’s...
I’m actually in touch with Steeda to order a set of their adjustable bump stops so I can use the rear short stack, but sadly the shipping prices to Canada are ludicrous (2/3 the cost of the bump stops). I don’t know if I want to waste so much money on shipping for some pieces of rubber. They...
Thanks for the reply man. I trimmed the OE bump stops according to BMRs instructions for their Sp763 minimum drop performance springs. After install I had the bushings indexed and proper alignment. The issue didn’t present itself during the first 1000 miles that included an 800 mile road trip...
Okay so you’re not hearing this while driving on your regular routes? So you hear this at stock height with factory strut mounts? Wow that’s interesting. What surprises me is all of the owner reviews of this shock and strut setup, nobody mentioned rear shock noise. I thought it was a safe bet to...
Okay so I’m not the only one! What noise are you hearing from the rear end with the Konis? Are you lowered as well? Did you trim your rear bump stops and how much?
thanks
Anyone here having issues with rear bump stops? I feel like the Special Actives are underdamped in the rear and regularly hitting the bump stops. I’ve trimmed the top two sections off leaving only one section before the black ring. I’m getting rubber bouncing noise from the rear over multiple...
Great to see you guys finding success with these BMW bump stops and Bilstein rear shocks. I’m riding on BMR SP763 minimum drop springs and Koni Active struts/shocks (Steeda’s Active set would be equivalent).
I trimmed my bump stops according to BMR’s instructions front and rear during install...
Thank you for your reply. It’s hard to keep track of all of these factors - I remember reading about wheel rate before.
Think it’s best to trim the bump stops more or try the FP bump stops? Or is it grasping at straws and I have to accept that I bought rear shocks that aren’t good enough -...
Thanks for all the input.
I hear you. There’s no rattle now that the top nuts have been tightened with locktite. Now it’s a rubber bouncing sound and is likely the bump stops.
This is making me wish I had bought the Bilsteins everyone is raving about. Theres so many damper options; it’s hard...
You think these Konis aren’t up to snuff on the rear? I mean damn, I put minimum drop springs with spring rates near stock PP and these Konis can’t even keep up? I feel like they don’t have enough clearance to do their thing with this “adaptive” damping.
I felt the stock shocks were...
That’s what I thought so I had my dealer’s suspension tech look over everything, check the torque on the bolts, check the exhaust and other parts for rattle. It’s definitely the rear suspension, likely the shocks, but the shocks didn’t show signs of failure externally. There’s less than 2k miles...
I threw a set of these on my PP 15 GT with Koni Active dampers and its a solid street setup. I drive on Chicago/New York bad roads in my city and they manage the bumps, cracks, potholes and uneven pavement well. Perfect height for a year round daily driver.
Anyone here notice the rear bottoms...
Update: took the car to my dealer. Their suspension tech did a full shake down of the car and checked everything. Rear strut top nuts had loosened up and it was likely a result of the bump stops not giving my shocks enough clearance. Even though I cut them down enough according to the...
So are we to believe that it could be an issue with the IRS accepting aftermarket springs/shocks?
I checked my springs are properly perched, I didn’t get any play in my toe rods when I checked. It’s going to the dealer today cause I’m at a loss.
Wanted to revive this old thread and see how some of the posters cars are doing months later. I installed BMR minimum drop performance springs and Koni Active shocks a couple months back. Nothing else added. Had the bushings indexed and an alignment done, everything in spec. Car rode well and...
I have 245/45/19s Michelin Xice 3s on 19x9 square EcoBoost PP wheels for winter and they work/look great. They clear the Brembos and the little extra sidewall is nice. They’re around 3% different In tire size/rolling speed so not well beyond tolerance.
I’m lowered on BMR SP763s (on Koni...
