I think insurance companies use the term original manufacturer's specification and would undoubtedly argue that is not original. I'm sure if there is ever a way to try and get out of paying a claim, they would do it. I would rather be safe than sorry and just declare all mods, even trivial ones.
One of my toys is a heavily modified car and is insured with Herts Insurance Consultants (also known as HIC). There's a company out there called Brentacre IIRC who are also supposed to be very competitive.

I contacted my local dealer about this a week ago now and nothing has happened at all. I've provided them with pictures and all I've been told is that they've referred it to the warranty department. Every time I contact them for an update, I'm just told they haven't heard anything back yet...
