  1. Per Ford (officially) the 2011-2019 F150/Mustang 5.0 “Typewriter Tick” is a normal characteristic

Here's a recent example of only half a bottle (150 ml) doing its magic. https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/threads/what-did-you-do-to-your-s550-mustang-today.11109/post-4111643

Some just don't tick regardless of what oil is used. My 2015 doesn't tick at all, and I've used 3 different motor oils (5W-20 and then switched up to a 5W-30).

Yes, but some members here have reported that adding only a half bottle of Ceratec (150 ml) made their tick go away. Seems that some engines take more than others to quiet them.

Ceratec doesn't contain black carbon powder, but modifies the friction level. I believe a few members have reported that using some motor oils high in moly content helped the ticking. Could be there is some extra parts collision "padding" going on with additives, but when you look at the...

Close your eyes and imagine your Mustang is idling. 😄 🙃 Then add some Ceratec and hear it magically go away.

You nor anyone else here unless they work for Ford directly related to the tick investigation knows how they conducted their investigation into the ticking issue. If they really don't "know" what's causing it, then they need some in depth engineering investigation. Like said, I'm betting they...
  7. Per Ford (officially) the 2011-2019 F150/Mustang 5.0 “Typewriter Tick” is a normal characteristic

Any mechanical engineer should understand clearances, moving parts and maybe some oil tribology too if they have studied it.
  8. Per Ford (officially) the 2011-2019 F150/Mustang 5.0 “Typewriter Tick” is a normal characteristic

Saying that Ford engineers don't know what the real cause of the BBQ tick is implies they don't really understand engines or the very engine they designed. I'm sure they know what the cause is. They just won't say exactly what it is because it would most likely create all kinds of controversy...
  9. Per Ford (officially) the 2011-2019 F150/Mustang 5.0 “Typewriter Tick” is a normal characteristic

Ford engineers aren't that inept. They know what it is, they just won't say. If it's from the rod side clearance being a bit out of spec then people would be screaming that the engines were not built to specs. I think it's something like that, along with the oil friction level factor as I've...
  10. 5W20 vs 5W30 in the Midwest for a car that frequently takes long trips

Probably has a high viscosity index too. Wonder how it does as far as the index improves shearing down? That Mobil 0W-40 would probably also work good in the Coyote for track use. I know that Motorcraft 5W-50 shears down pretty fast to a 40 grade.
  11. 5W20 vs 5W30 in the Midwest for a car that frequently takes long trips

It seems thin at room temperature because it's a 0W. Don't know why GM specs a 0W-40 with the C8 since I highly doubt many will be doing cold start-ups in super cold weather - maybe in the garage in the middle of winter, lol. Maybe GM just wanted to cover all bases. How you liking that C8...
