Can we get back to discussing performance, please?
The Ford GT and the ZR1 are in the same performance category, but they are not in the same exclusivity category. The ZR1 may be slightly faster (or not), but the Ford GT is *a lot* more exclusive.
Similarly, the GT350 and SS1LE are in the same...
1 - Have fun, take short breaks from boring work.
2 - Discuss things I love - affordable performance cars that do great on track days.
3 - Try to gain insight to the question of "how is the PP2 likely to perform vs the SS1LE" as I "need" to buy a new track car by early April.
4 - Try to shame...

We don't have perfect data - same day, same driver, same track, same methodology between the Ford GT and Z06, or between the SS1LE and the (non R) GT350, etc.
So the discussion is around getting some data points, that are indicative of relative performance.
And the datapoints are...
There is no accepted definition of Supercar, Supermodel, Superstar. Arguing about it is pointless, since there is no accepted definition to score.
The one thing that we can discuss is the relative track performance of various cars, when they are run by a consistent driver (e.g. Randy Pobst)...
Agreed. What a circular discussion. Mero is faster than the C&D editors. But the C7 Racing team drivers are also faster (much faster actually) than Mero.
That is why the MT tests are such a critical piece of data. They run a consistent driver (Probst) with a consistent protocol, on a set of...
Race? Who the heck is talking about racing? None of those cars we are discussing are legal to be road raced on any series (even amateur ones like NASA and SCCA).
We are talking about the ONLY place where you can legally enjoy the handling and performance of these cars "as sold" - on a track...
Chevy has started production of MY2019 Corvettes. MY2018 was a short run. There will be even better deals on 2018 Corvettes very soon as the MY2019 hit the lots.
No disagreement there. But I thought we are on a thread about "Track Times Compared", not an "elegance" thread.
You may find it hard to believe, but a number of people (increasing every year) buy sports cars intending to take them to the track regularly (road course), since that is the ONLY...
ZR1 has 300 more horsepower than a Corvette Grand Sport and 100 more than the Z06. It has 70% more downforce (ZTK) than the Z06. And it has the same weight as the Z06. Pretty much all you said is wrong.
As to me understanding how "lap times work". I race on road circuits and instruct on...
Missing the point much?
The point is that Ford's all out $453,750 supercar, is running basically neck and neck with GM's $90K Z06, and will most likely be beaten solidly by GM's $125K ZR1.
It is a solid indication of the track performance gap between the two companies. Nothing more, nothing...
Lets look at the relevant data, shall we?
Motor Trend just tested the Ford GT at Willow Springs. The first one broke down. Ford sent a second one.

-> It was slower than the Z06 on the figure 8 (and only 0.2s faster...
I don't know what world you live in.
I could care less what the asking or MSRP for a car, a house or a hooker is.
I, and everyone else that I know, transact in prevailing or market prices.
Ford seems to encourage the buying drama by doing limited production runs of the Boss 302, GT350, etc...
I disagree with that. The GT350 specifically can't get out of the way of a similarly sized, cheaper Camaro 1LE with a lot less power, and costing a lot less.
Is not a matter of being "defective" or "incorrect". It is a matter of how good it can be on track while meeting a design point for road...
That is only if you look at MSRP.
The reality is that you can buy Z51 Vettes and Grand Sports Vettes all day, without any drama, and with substantial discounts from MSRP.
Buying a GT350-R is a drama fest. You have to deal with the "it's special", "it's limited production", "it has dealer mark...
There are a lot of misconceptions here as to how the "magnetic suspension" works and what it can do.
First, there is no such thing as "magnetic suspension". They are magnetic shocks. The shocks are the only things that can be adjusted electronically.
The mag shocks only work well, if:
1 - The...
No, you can't. It is a Ford Performance (aka aftermarket) part. It is no different than putting a Ford Performance cooler on the PP2 or a MOPAR lift on a Jeep.
You just have to accept reality. Ford just does not know how to do performance/handling as well as GM.
I'll put good money that...
I go to Lime Rock all the time. I should be there April 13 instructing with NASA. I will need a new track car before then :) (Since it is not a race weekend, I won't have a race car available).
The C7 is much, much, much easier to drive on track than the Mustang GT, particularly in the...
Yes. I changed from Mustang to Corvette when my boys got big enough and no longer fit/wanted to ride on the back seat. They are now just starting college, so not a big issue. My daughter is 11 and will fit for short stints on either Mustang or Camaro - so that is why I am again considering a...
