  1. 2018 Bullitt Mustang (and Features) Confirmed in Window Sticker

Very nice! And especially nice to see only 1 "fake" non-functional item - the Bullitt badge. Ok, so that's nostalgia. But no fake side scoops (which never scooped anything anyway), no hood scoop (pointless, given no carb), etc. Good, a mature car. Disappointing to see the red calipers - red has...
  2. Official: 2018 Mustang GT Has 460HP, 0-60MPH in Under 4.0 Secs; EcoBoost Sub 5-Secs

Not without the coolers the GT350 has on it's tranny and diff (and larger engine coolers). Maybe in Michigan, but definitely not in the hotter climates. There has been no word yet on such coolers for the GT track pack. And it would be expensive. Which brings me to a point about the GT350...
  3. Official: 2018 Mustang GT Has 460HP, 0-60MPH in Under 4.0 Secs; EcoBoost Sub 5-Secs

It's dependent on getting the exhaust system restriction for RHD cars straightened out.
  4. Watkins Glen lap times/videos anyone?

[I started these kinds of events at the Glen in '80... I have so many fond memories of the place (I no longer live in the northeast). It's one of the finest tracks in the country, I think one of the top three. And every weekend there is an experience - the challenges of the track itself...
  5. My prediction for the engine

I met with the product planners a few months ago and confirmed that the 5.2 heads are not usable on the 5.0 block - the engineers took advantage of the bigger bore to move the valves apart and enlarge them. So there is nothing in the heads to use. This was my first question to them. And would...
  6. My prediction for the engine

Next reason: the F-150 pays the bills for the V-8 5.0, and since the F-150 doesn't need the BOSS engine then the Mustang won't have it available. The F-150 strategy is EcoBoost, and the upcoming second-gen 3.5EB makes class-leading torque. So the BOSS engine is dead in the F-150 and the only...
  7. My prediction for the engine

Because of CAFE. An aluminum version of the BOSS engine was shown in 7 liter DOHC form and was being tested. It was to be the engine for the 2006 Cobra, but was cancelled along with it's IRS suspension in a cost-cutting move. Even the iron block SOHC 6.2 was cancelled, although later reinstated.
  8. 2021 MUSTANG (S650) - 7th Generation Mustang Confirmed

So with DOD, you don't get any performance increase... you get a naturally aspired 4- or 6-cylinder engine when you are off the gas. Drive a 5 liter F-150 some time, compare it against a 3.5EB F-150. There is no comparison. The majority of the market has swung over to the 3.5EB, and it is...
  9. 2021 MUSTANG (S650) - 7th Generation Mustang Confirmed

Drive a Supra TT mk4 sometime, with the very slight mods required to get to 400 or 500 or 600 or more. That's one heckuva fun drive, asymmetrical as it is, and the engine is built like a battleship. You'll never go back to naturally aspirated anything after that.
  10. 2021 MUSTANG (S650) - 7th Generation Mustang Confirmed

Ford engineers are playing around with this, as well as my own personal favorite - variable lift. The technology is not hard, but it's the financials that are. Again, I gotta wonder about the 5 liter here, because the F-150 program pays the architecture bills for that engine. And that engine...
  11. Mach 1 S550 Mustang First Video

No, the hood would just be shaped higher. There's plenty of room for that, and there are plenty of cars with superchargers of this same type as an example (including Ford's own kit for the 5.0) of an easy fitment. Most of the impact is in the front maybe quarter of the hood, and the room needed...
  12. Mach 1 S550 Mustang First Video

That's FUD that was spread during rollout to explain away the lack of the "Trinity" 5.8 engine. And it's not true: the S550 engine compartment is all but the same as the S197 because it's just an evolution of the S197. Frame rails same, distance between them same, shock towers almost identical...
  13. Mach 1 S550 Mustang First Video

The splitter isn't production - it wouldn't survive a crash test. And the recent California Special uses a bigger splitter anyway. The decklid is production.
  14. My prediction for the engine

There are so many factors going into the S650 timeframe that will determine it's design, but the reality is emissions laws followed by fuel economy laws. None of us especially like this, but we have to face the reality of it. Look at the pollution in London, Paris, and many American cities. My...
  15. My prediction for the engine

The Z/28 absolutely will beat the GT350 around the track, and the 1LE may very well do so too (it's designed to do so, and GM already has a GT350 to test) and at a better price point than the GT350 (at least 10k less). Keep in mind that the Z/28 will likely be about 70k or so. The problem here...
  16. My prediction for the engine

Not exactly... compression *can* be raised (but doesn't have to be), which is always desirable (in degrees for naturally aspirated engines as well as unnaturally aspirated) for and has numerous benefits that outweigh the complexity and cost (both of which are rapidly coming down). Nonetheless...
  17. My prediction for the engine

D.I. is a terrific technology, very desirable, and not an inhibitor to modification at all - look what the aftermarket is doing with GM's 6.2 (both the naturally aspirated and the factory supercharged). This is smart all the way around, and the only inhibitor is misconceptions. Of which people...
  18. My prediction for the engine

The 5.2 is GT350 exclusive... you'll never see it in any other Mustang. Y'all have to get realistic here and think about the 5.0. It won't have more HP than the GT350, and it has to be at a price point the Mach buyers (assuming there ever is a Mach) would expect - more than a GT but not by much...
  19. My prediction for the engine

I've driven a couple of Kraftwerks boosted S2000s on the track and they work terrifically. You have to remember that the S2000 engine is built for upper RPM breathing in a way that the Coyote/Voodoo Ford engine is not. You aren't going to get similarly proportional increases here. That said...
  20. 2021 MUSTANG (S650) - 7th Generation Mustang Confirmed

Some double digit number, nothing more. Look at the Camaro 6.2 before and after that engine got it, and then look at the cost of the SS model. That's the only way to get any kind of approximation, although the SS price increase obviously included the new chassis and other standard features...
