Nice write up. So to confirm - with this Aliexpress key you don't need to change the receiver with a US one? Just pair the new key and enable remote start in FORscan?

The remote start and boot release buttons are crossed though.... its a feature not a bug :crackup::crackup:
Is this supposed to happen? I can see that the remote button is in the same place as the trunk release on the original key... but still?"

Yep just AliExpress key. No other hardware needed. The buttons are not reversed on mine. This might be an issue with the other posters key specifically. The buttons are in different spots on the key but they work as shown.

Thanks for the info. I did a bit more research and it looks like what we are doing is using an S660 key fob which is somehow backwards compatible. Just ordered one and I will report back when it arrives.

I have the EPM 3A3R kit too and I personally haven't had any issues with it switching modes on me. I'm guessing something went hay wire in the BCM and rapidly flicked the light switch enough to change the mode. But you should know that once its all setup correctly you shouldn't need to worry about that in future.
Sorry about all the issues you had, but you've provided good info for anyone else who does this mod
all good, i had a mate have a crack (thanks Lance), and now have remote start working.

got the MX+ in the mail today, and have changed a few things, which all work. happy days.

I went back into forscan a while ago and also enabled remote start settings in the APIM (head unit) i dont think this did anything because the behaviour didnt change and no new settings appear in the head unit settings.

I also enabled another setting in the bdyCM module. i cant remember the exact wording but it was something like "remote start parking lights" and now the car lights up when i remote start. not a big issue if you leave that one off though

i remember seeing that setting "Remote start with parking lights". was going to try on the weekend.

off topic, but i didn't realise this model has the heated steering wheel. tried it out (its cold on canberra mornings), but threw a code, something to do with the cable around the steering column shorting. i'll need to check that on the weekend as well. i should whack this bit in the appropriate thread though.

I don't think our cars came with the hardware for heated steering wheel. You will likely need a new steering wheel and a heated steering wheel module. I briefly googled it once and it seems like it's possible. I just wasnt that interested in doing it at the time.

UK cars come with a heated steering wheel so it must be possible for RHD.
That's interesting because from my understanding all RHD cars where built exactly the same. So maybe AU cars have the hardware and we just need to enable it? (I could be wrong and idk how to check for the hardware). My guess would be APIM (for the touch screen button) FCIM maybe for climate controls? IPC for remote start settings and maybe bdyCM?. Not sure though, something to explore and make another thread about

My AU 2018 came with the heated steering wheel although I did lose it with getting an aftermarket wheel. The exchange wheels in those days were not available with the heating "element" but I think that they are now. This standard AU feature of the 2018 was dropped for the later years.
You might find that the wiring is still in the 2019 but you would need a new wheel. Surely there would be something on the US forum about this.
