Kent, I believe its a flash of a new calibration into the PCM, and Bob's your uncle.

Side note, it seem like people are loosing interest around here. The content is drier than a popcorn fart
Think we all got excited seeing them built and thinking that they would start shipping. Think it will start back up when we see shipping begin

Update on shipping.
There have been no cars shipped, but 9 have been received for shipping. Going through 241 Produced/Received VINs looking for changes is sometimes rewarding.

About the eta countdown clock problem.
When you see your status changed to "In Transit / Shipped Rail or Convoy" that is when the eta clock actually starts to mean something, up until this time the delivery eta is not relevant. I think the eta, before shipping, is based on the normal manufacturing time line of the Mustang and the program treats the GT500 the same way it treats a Mustang, it assumes the Mustang will take X number of days to go from Released to Shipped and then adds the average time it takes to go from the ship location to the delivery location. We all know that the 2020 GT500 has not followed the normal time line.

So the calibration change is to the TCU, not the PCM?
My GUESS is yes.

Second GUESS It's Flash Memory....If you go to the TCU Data Sheet, It has "4 MB Flash, 32 KB EEPROM, 400 KB RAM".

Reloading Flash isn't a big deal and is a likely candidate for an upgrade. It is in the large 4 MB file. The EEPROM , "electrically erasable programmable read only memory is really small at 32KB and doesnt hold much data. I doubt there could be much there to help with dialing in improvements. The random access memory RAM will use data garnered from the tranny as well as being possible to hold part of the operating system as well.. Again, not the likely place for any effort.

Keep in mind that the TCU is responsible for the 8o mili second shifting. It is constantly thinking and making decisions based on the inputs. It is very smart and very complex. The building blocks for on board computers like this start with the semi conductor design company. The software and hardware guys at an OEM like Tremec work unbelievable hours to get their needs and performance requirements to the finish line with a new product. No surprise's as this is a first generation sophisticated gear box.

IF this is part of a quality update, the solution must have been found pretty quickly . You don't get to make code changes and say OK let's ship. You make the change and then have to go through another round of validation to insure the fix doesn't break something else and it indeed solved your first issue. We know that cars are being produced so it wasnt too big of an " oh poop" .

As an electronics manufacturing guy, I spent many years waiting on engineering release as my customers beat me up to ship them inventory. I'm thinking about the poor team that is taking the heat for getting this right.

Fortunately for us, quality is important. I really don't mind the wait, I would like more information as the unknown keeps me awake worrying about something I have no control over.

Best Regards,
George

@Snoopy49 how May VIN’s have been “sent to plant” in the last week or two? Are they even slowing down to get what’s built out?? By the time this is over the 2020 GT500 might be more elusive than the 2015 GT350R
20 Sent to Plant this week.
