I have a used NGauge and yes you can just use the gauge to monitor the car.

I have two used and would be willing to sell one. Haven't used either on my car yet. I know that both are Lund, one is married to another car and would need to be unmarried by Lund (free of charge if you buy a tune from them). I do not know the status of the other (probably married also, got it with some other parts). I can test either one for monitoring and let you know.

Did you ever get a chance and see if you could monitor engine on a married NGauge?

yes you can use a married device to look at gauges. I did this for awhile before i had lund unlock it for me.
