1) 36mm
2) No mechanical locking device
3) Ford Performance say: Install the new spindle nuts with Blue thread locking compound. Torque Stage 1: 98 lb.ft (133 Nm). Torque Stage 2: 45°
4) Yes
Very true, forgot all about that, I re-torqued mine a few weeks after delivery and one of the rears was definitely on its way to becoming loose.

So, for info for everyone:

Hub nut - 36mm, No locking mechanism, Torqued with blue Loctite to 133nm/98lbft, and then to 45 degree turn.

Cheers Dave :).

I'll go hit up my local garage and borrow a 36mm

I've definitely seen a thread somewhere about the hub nuts coming loose... sure it was someone on here... they were told the same thing straight off (without the wheel being removed)... bearing knackered - but on proper inspection was found to be hub nut had come loose (but only on one side).

I remember this too, can't remember who it was.

Thanks for the info on the hub nuts.

Rather unfortunately for me, this is the first thing we checked last week when the car was on the ramp.

Both mine are tight, so a genuine bearing problem.

Looks like the GT will be out of action for a week.

Replacement wheels needed and of course Ford couldn't give a flying toss.

Popped in to our local MINI dealer, from whom we have bought a few cars over the last 5 years, to see if I could rent a 3dr Cooper for a week.

Answer was no, but I could have a Countryman Cooper S All4 for free. What service. The gulf between MINI and Ford is frankly embarrassing.

It's dog cock red, but it's a nice car to cruise around in.

We will be back to buy another MINI next year, so the dealer isn't daft.... But it just shows the difference between how companies handle and retain customers.

My nearside rear bearing has let go too - just been discovered at the 1st service.

Technician asked if I’d noticed any “clonking or banging” from the rear.?

Yes I had, it’s always done it, but the noise was the same as my old Caterham and that was it’s Limited Slip Diff, so I figured it was the LSD on the ’stang too....

Got to say, I have no problems with my dealer (Furrows, Telford), but it's clear a lot of them in the UK and Europe still leave a lot to be desired.

I guess so many are geared up for selling piles of Fiestas, C-Max and Focus' to customers who are of the "it's only a car" mentality and won't quibble over some quality issues. i.e. they'll drive it 'til it stops going!!

They need to have a different approach when customers are spending £35K+ for a car and an enthusiasts car at that. Otherwise it will drive more owners to use Independent Ford performance specialists for all their servicing and back to the brands from whence they came when it's time to change the car.

Welp. One more reason to get the premium care extended warranty here in the states.

Sorry for your troubles, seems odd they won't take care of you, I'd of blown a gasket.

Small update on my side.

Dealership have just phoned me.

It's about a week to get the part. They're sure it's the bearing rather than the 32mm nut , but even if it is the nut - they want to swap the whole lot out, incase anything else has been damaged. I have asked them to ensure the nut on the other side is done up to spec.

Oh (and not that it helps kapiteinlangzaam much) but on the subject of non OEM wheels, my dealers, or rather their technicians are of the opinion that even if I'd taken it in with a set of xxxxx wheels on, they would still be changing the bearing. Their thinking being: as I could already have spotted the issue and swapped the OEM's back on and they wouldn't know it was running around on something non factory.

They did say that they WOULD have an issue, if it came in and the wheels were something stupid like 24" and twice the normal width.

The technician dealing with it said, "it's a Mustang, Wheels and Exhaust are normally the 1st things that are changed, so as long as it's not silly......".

Infact they all complimented me on the mods it had, which took some of the pain away of having to leave it there.

So there are "mod" friendly dealers/tech's out there.

Sounds like you've got a good dealer there Mike.

I'm screwed as Ford NL (in general) are just bad at everything.

My parts from the US arrived on Friday, but couldn't get any workshop time. They are finally being done on Wednesday.

It's just another nail in the coffin for my relationship with Ford. It'll certainly never see a dealer again outside warranty.

This was me Steve, Ford wanted £400 odd for new wheel bearing. It didn't sound like a wheel bearing to me so got my tyre fitter to have a look. Hub was loose! He didn't even want the £20 I offered him but made him take it. So yes check hub if this happens.
