This is the key really - many shops DO NOT know what they are doing unfortunately.

It's a great question. It isn't absurd at all. If you have camber plates, you likely want to adjust alignment for track days and then back again for street driving. Taking it to a shop each time is obviously fine, but why not learn to do it yourself. It's not a rocket science with some basic tools.

The guy was an idiot, but where I live, continuing a pursuit at 150mph IN TRAFFIC isn't considered appropriate behavior either. Really makes no sense for a speeding infraction. As someone mentioned - can't out run a radio.

Update: The dealership called back, because I haven't been in. I got the service guy to physically check what part was sent. It turns out to be a new dipstick (not just the o-ring) so no 4 hour installation required. Hopefully this solves the issue.

Thanks for the replies - I'm going to just buy a new dipstick and do the "install" myself! Shouldn't stretch my mechanical abilities too badly. I guess I can always drop the old one off (maybe when I pick up the new one!) and have them work their 4 hour magic on it.

I have this theory, based on absolutely nothing, that this engine is happier being driven harder than easier. Higher temperatures, more metal expansion, tighter sealing and less oil usage. Kind of like SR22,s that leaked fuel until they were at full cruising in the air.... no idea if this...

The reality is that people on the forum can only speculate what the issue is - that includes you. The issue with the engines that have failed could be many - bad engineering, bad run of critical parts, accountants wanting to save a nickel here and there. Poor assembly, like you say, is also...
