I stuck with 5W20 for first two oil changes, then went with 5W30 going forward. Happy to trade a little bit of mileage for better protection. This is what my service advisor suggested when I asked him at the first oil change.
I have the digital dash, and it pops up when I turn off the engine (not sure if I have to open door). I think the options are "all sensors" and "perimeter". I can change it with the buttons on the steering wheel. I can post a picture this weekend.
When you leave the dog in the car, you need to disarm the internal motion sensors. Its a two part system. It should show you on the dash after you turn off the engine before you exit the car.
They were genuine Ford, I purchased from the parts dept at the dealership. I have a good relationship with the service dept., so they are very accommodating and greet me by name every time I go there, unlike the local VW dealership service dept. where I took my Jetta for all its service for 12...
I had mine installed by the dealer during an oil change. I purchased supplied the part. I think my installed total cost was $85.
Notwithstanding how lame it sounded, I think it was dangerous at highway speeds, as it wouldn't get anyone's attention...

So sorry to hear your bad news JC. It's tough parting with your "baby". But while it is a nice car it is still only a car! Wishing you all the best and hopefully the money will be well spent and you have many more years to enjoy life.
