When I bought my 2014 Explorer I got a Livernois tune in 91 and 87 octane. The mileage on the 87 was solidly 2 mph better on the hwy and at least that in the city. Then I bought a 2013 PP SHO and with tune only ran a 12.99@105. When I bought my 2015 GT auto, I wanted a LMS tune for it. They told me that I could use the explorer tuner and they would send me a tune file so it could be used on the Mustang. The tune from them for my 2015 GT Premium is awesome. They have a policy and did not charge me for the tune on the Mustang!
I've been to the dragstrip enough to know it is worth several 1/10s from the stock tune. I haven't used a BAMA or Brenspeed tune in several years, but from my experience LMS does a very nice job. I really love sport mode using the paddle shifters now. It's a blast!

Would my engine possibly be damaged if I got a 93 octane tune, but spent a few months in California where only 91 octane is available? Are there any options to handle this scenario?

You don't want to do that. You would need a couple of tunes you can switch back and forth.

LMS mycal will hold 4 tunes. You can have several tunes to switch from. 91, 93.v 10, v11, etc...

We can give you a 91 and 93 octane tune and i would just switch, you never want to run a lower octane than you are tuned for
