DO NOT FIT: MMD No Drill Hood Struts

It's the pedestrian impact pop up hoods mandated in Europe that require the special hinges.

Started to realize there may be some law behind it.

After spending over an hour trying to get these to fit and allow the bonnet to shut without catching or rubbing,even modifying the brackets to get them to align better did not work.

I went on youtube an watched the installation video and on closer inspection the EU bonnet has completely different hinges which reduce the gap that the strut is supposed to slot into, and have a tab that impacts the strut no matter which way it is set up.

so just in case anyone is thinking of buying these, DON'T as they DO NOT fit.

So is it stock o.e. part of the hood hitting against the gas strut? Or is it part of the metal in the MMD kit not fitting right or hitting something as I suppose that could cut and modified.

the part of the hinge i circled in the pictures that posted earlier, impact onto the body of the gas strut itself, we tried minor modifications to the brackets, and swapping the sides and gas struts around but there was no way we could get them to align perfectly.

its such a tight gap that the strut has to squeeze through, and the chassis is in the way of where you would need to put the strut-end to get a perfect line.

id suggest trying to to return them, and getting the Redline or steeda ones instead.

Did you trying flipping the struts around so they are effectively upside down.

If its the actual strut catching I'd though the redline would as well unless the MMD strut body has more girth.

when the strut is compressed the body is in the same spot still impacting whichever way up it is, the redline/steeda ones fit at a completly different angle, thats why they fit but the MMD ones wont

Hey Sam - I'm sorry about the delay on my end and to hear about this. Gibbo just shot me a PM and lead me to this.

This isn't any good at all and I'm going to work to have the listing updated on our end to ensure that no-one in the UK is going to run into this issue moving forward.

guys redline struts definitely worked, the holes on the hood side needed elongating by a 2 mm at a 45 degree angle to allow the to rotate in the place correctly but once that was done they fit perfectly

I think this might effect not just RHD but also LHD euro cars as well, the hinges are different on EU Mustangs due to pedestrian safety bonnet explosive devices built in.
