Hi Guys,

I had ordered my Pony back in April and it should be built in the next few weeks, for an estimated delivery in March. In time for its arrival, I wanted to have a few bits ready to go on it straight away.

I have read a few threads here about people discarding the original deck lid panel for the running pony/GT without the fuel cap design. This is something I wanted to do but I am not sure where to buy it from. I have had a browse on some websites and although they say they are genuine parts, I still am not sure about whether the spec will be the same as the original (especially to fit the reverse camera).

For the guys who have already fitted this, did yours fit ok? Did it arrive in good condition and where did you buy it from?

Thank you!

CJ Pony have a clean panel for $139 and I've had a couple of good experiences with them (door to door, no customs, though for smaller packages).
NewTakeOff are effectively nearly new parts removed from cars being upgraded. They're a bit cheaper but not used them (they didn't reply to my email regarding shipping).

I got mine from new take off. They describe is as new, but it will have been removed from a car that has been upgraded, modified etc.

The one I received (a GT deck lid) is in excellent condition, and it is definitely the cheapest way to lose the filler cap! ($70 plus shipping i think). Luckily I've been to Florida on holiday recently, so I had it shipped to my hotel for free and brought it home with me. If you don't have this luxury then the shipping charge might be steep.

However if you are planning several mods then you might find it cheaper to get a blank deck lid (~ $130) from CJ Pony and ship it at the same time as your other parts.

Or, there is another thread by a guy setting up a uk parts site, maybe in time he will stock the blank Ford Racing deck lid.

As for fitting, it sounds like the old one will put up a fight when you try to remove it but the process is simple in theory! I haven't found out yet as my car isn't due until April.

Thanks everyone, looks like 'newtakeoff' is the best bet then (CJ Pony Parts have the blank deck lid, I am after one with the pony). Although I am going to wait for the new UK parts site to be up and running properly first!

We should be stocking something similar. And also a plain carbon fibre one. We've got a custom option for the plain non carbon fibre, any colour design etc. I'd be nice to offer the carbon fibre/bespoke decklids with the pony/gt logo but need to look more into it!

I have updated mine today with the plain decklid but it had a defect in the centre and the front badge from cjponyparts also arrived damaged so created something good out of the two duff ones.

Those look great and kudos for wasting no time in taking care of business!

Personally, I'm not too offended by the 'faux cap' so its low priority. I think the real cosmetic issue that lets the car down is the 1980's grey plastic trim (splitter, 'running boards' etc.). These are only going to look worse with age, no matter what products we use on them.

Yes! This is something I picked up as soon as I saw the car. Will be getting those wrapped gloss back asap.
