MY 2017 Mustang announcements, when ?

Ford needs to do something for the 2017. I'm far from a Camaro fan but the new one has raised the bar and I hope Ford responds for 2017 instead if 2018. Give us a HP bump, auto in performance pack, maybe magneride option, and improved performace pack(handling aspect). And while youre at it, make rear Brembo brake calipers standard on the performance pack. Its just an eyesore the way it is now though we know why Ford hasnt done it so far.

They arent changing this current car any faster than 4 years. Its still outselling the camaro, and the camaro is barely faster without the 10 speed auto. Ford will answer in 2018 with a 10 speed auto and updated manual trans. Other than that the car wont change. How do I know this? I work for ford and have friends that stand on the mustang assembly line. They would know by now if any of the process was changing two years out.

Perhaps more to the point of the topic, I hope Ford lets us know real soon. I'm getting antsy to get an s550 and want to know what I might be missing if I cant wait for a 2017

I don't know about PP & Auto. I am afraid if they do that, there will be a defection.

expand the spare tire well if possible, so the PP can have a proper spare.

ship PP with A/S. Swapping the 19" summer tires immediately is expensive

Brembos on all 4 corners. People buying the PP will pay the extra.

not that keen on the PP wheels. Maybe have a 5 spoke offering to show off the Brembos better

I bought the spare tire kit for my '12 brembo gt knowing that if i get a flat up front i would have to switch a tire from back to front and then put the spare on the back.

This is exactly why I haven't pulled the trigger on buying a 2016 yet. I am desperately hoping that 2017 is the year Ford decides to offer the Performance Package with a automatic transmission for those of us enthusiasts(with bad joints ). In my opinion, if a Corvette Z06 with far greater performance capabilities than the GT Mustang can be had with an automatic then Ford should do the same.

not sure if this is recommended, at least on the 15+ cars. You would have a slightly smaller tire on the back, causing stress on the LSD.

Definitely like the '16 BUT owe it to myself to see what the 17 offers. Bar has been raised by Chevy. Its a good time to be in the market for a new ride.

If you are waiting until the 17s come out...then you are not in the market for a new ride. You will be in the market for a new ride in about 7 months. Big difference.

Apparently it was in error...it's only going up $250 on non GT models..the MSRP on the GT's and GT350's are staying put.

But there was a $95.00 price hike in September or October on the GT. Doesn't sound like much, but at the volume they're selling, I'd love to have that total $$$ every month!

All of the above would be nice to see, but I think as long as sales stay the way they have been, odds aren't spectacular. I waited to see the '16 Camaro (meh), then waited to order a 2016 - order banks opened the first week of June. And all I got over the 2015's were the hood mounted turn signals. Although panel alignment is much better AND the rear glass is installed correctly. It's nice to wait, but life can pass you by. Surprised that there isn't more chatter ahead of the show in Detroit next month.

Something else to keep in mind... IIRC CAFE fuel economy is set at 33 mpg for 2017. That's gonna hurt. Haven't found out yet if the threshold for the gas guzzler tax will change.

Actually about 9-10 months.

Chevy only raised the bar for the bench racer (or excellent drag racer) and anyone who pushes their car very hard on a road course. It has some great features (NPP and Magride), but those options push you way up in price. Ford does not need to respond in a rushed, reactionary way to the new Camaro. Key reasons why:

1. We've yet to see a few months of sales figures of the new camaro, and the Mustang is still selling very well. If the Mustang sales started dropping like crazy because of the camaro then they might try to speed up their refresh plans by a few months, but that's all that would be feasible. You simply can't just go and do stuff in the automotive world. All changes, particularly ones that influence performance, require extensive engineering and quality validation. So many people don't get that.
2. The Mustang holds a significant MSRP advantage, particularly in the I4 and V6 cars. Similarly optioned EB is a lot cheaper than a 2LT or RS V6. The SS does not come without a performance pack, and despite the cross-section of people on this forum, you'll find that most GT owners do not have the PP. This is a price gap Chevy currently can't bridge with their strategy.
3. To many, the new Camaro looks good, but too similar to the outgoing car. The Mustang is still a fresh and sexy design. There are few that would say the camaro tops the Mustang for looks, but obviously this is subjective. Good looks sells sports and pony cars more than numbers on a magazine page.
4. Ford has positioned the S550 to compete with many other luxury sport coupes with its exterior and interior design, not to mention the performance that's been there. The camaro absolutely competes on performance, but I don't think the average BMW, Audi, Infiniti or STi/Evo owners are cross shopping near as much as they are with the S550. It just doesn't have the grown up, refined look...still comic styling and proportions.

What bar has Chevy raised? A slightly faster car that you still can't see out of? Cheap looking interior, though it is better than the 15 for sure. The Camaro has always been a good handling car and nothing has changed moving into the 16 as far as handling goes. I don't understand why people have their panties in a wad over the 16 Camaro. I saw a 16 Camaro at a local dealership on Sunday. There is no bar that has been raised unless you are worried about a couple of tenths of a second in a race. If you put lipstick on a pig, you still have a pig when it's all said and done!

Great point about the bench racing. It's easy to get caught up in all that when constantly going back and forth with my buddy at work that has an '11 SS. The competition between the Camaro and Mustang, even though Ford clearly said they were looking beyond the Camaro, is good for all of us. I'm anxious to see what Ford has in store for the '17 model. Hopefully some news slips out in the next couple months.
