Stock pads at 140 MPH+?

Having picked up my 2015 GT with PP and Recaros a couple weeks ago I am learning all over again and slowly preparing for next summer and the track season. With my 05 GT with nothing more than suspension, brake work and a CAI and tune I was reaching 136 MPH consistantly at the end of the straight at Pacific Raceways in Seattle.

I am pretty sure I will be hitting around 145 MPH with this car. I have read that the stock pads are pretty good and no brake fade. Having said that, I don't know what kind of speeds those people were reaching. This track is fast and very hard on brakes so I am concerned. Go with stock for the first time and upgrade after or do I stay away from stock pads with those speeds?

I can't imagine you will have a problem. I had absolutely no brake fade after a hard 20 min session. This is with late braking from 120-50 repeatedly.

I think you are fine at those speeds. I wouldn't give the pads a second thought in this car in a full stock configuration.

The puny equipment they put on the 05-09 S197 is nothing like what these 15-16s come with.

Those 6 piston Brembos are equal to or better than what you get on most 6 figure cars.

Agreed. The performance pack is essentially a "track pack", OP should have no issues with tracking the car on the factory 6 piston Brembo setup.

It isn't just about the top speed, but also the speed differential. Also, how late and hard are you braking? Energy vs power.

Either way, I think you are going to be hard pressed to cook the brakes.

It will be a little over 140 mph down to about 60 mph then down a steep hill at 100 into a switchback at 40. Very hard on brakes. There is actually a run away lane at the switchback. Anyone who has run this track, feel free to chime in.

I wouldn't do it. Stock pads will work for tracks that are easier on the brakes but beyond that they overheat and start depositing on the rotors really bad. If you do, expect to have to turn the rotors and get new pads afterwards.

What experience have you had with this?

I've done all day track events with my 4 piston Monobloc Brembos with factory Brembo pads and experienced zero fade, no issues with rotor deposits, and no overheating. I reached speeds in excess of 155 MPH on the straights. And the new 6 piston Brembos included with the PP are even better.

At the bare minimum I'd be putting good brake fluid in the car, Brembo LCF 600 or Motul 600.

We have taken our 2015 to VIR and NCCAR, we had brake fade at NCCAR. It's a small track with a hard braking zone. VIR was fine, but we also added our brake cooling kit inbetween.

Don't cheap out on brakes, it only takes once to be wrong to be in a world of hurt.

I plan on Motul 600, still have a bottle from last year to use. Also will install as brake lines. The biggest thing I need to do is put in brake cooling ducts. Waiting to see if a new kit comes out that won't remove the fog lights, otherwise I will make my own.
