I couldn't agree more. If I find evidence it has been littered with salt, I won't accept mine. Not a 60k car. No chance.

I tend to agree with you but I've lightened up a little over the years. Cars have become more and more "sealed" and I don't have the same feeling of doom and gloom re: a short exposure to salt as I once did.

I've previously used this on my jetskis and what it seems to do is react and dissolve salt very quickly. The salt residue comes flowing out of crevices and hard to reach areas. I cant think of any reason you couldn't use it at least once on a new car that you wanted to "unsalt". It comes with a mixer/sprayer and if the car was jacked up a bit, you should be able to get the undercarriage pretty well.

I understand, but we are talking a 60k plus vehicle here yet. I shouldn't have to do this or pay for something that has been exposed to salt and snow especially when I moved across the country to get away from it all. I lived up in Cleveland my whole life and none of my Mustangs ever saw salt. I can't start with a GT350 :-)

Out of curiosity how are these cars shipped? Closed containers or out?

Like every other mustang, train or convoy hauler.

I doubt it. They are cars, people, nice and special cars, but still cars, nonetheless. Like all the other vehicles Ford produces, they likely are exposed to various weather conditions when staged prior to shipment and delivery. This is true for almost any mass-produced vehicle, so it always amuses me to hear people talk about how their cars have "never seen rain" or "always garage-kept". That may be true for a car after taking delivery of it, but that is not likely to be case prior to taking possession.

Again, they are just cars, not priceless manuscripts or works of art that need to be placed in sealed chambers. If getting a car that has seen outdoor conditions is that big of an issue, you probably just need to pass on said vehicle and quit bitching about it on a message board.

Thanks garagelogic. That's what I shall do then. And you're wrong. The GT350 is priceless to me. It was going to be placed in sealed chambers. Thanks for making me feel better.

Again, I understand but want to point out - A $60k mustang is expensive...for a mustang. It is what it is at the price that it is because it's built on the same line as hundereds of thousands of other mustangs - they can't reasonably change the production process for just these cars.

I don't want mine to see salt or snow or even dirt but we need to be reasonable. While expensive for a mustang, it's not a hand-built supercar that gets delivered individually in an enclosed trailer.

Actually mine is set to be enclosed delivery ( dealer informed me)
For me it is a work of art and I will drive and enjoy it, but in my world it won't see salt,
So I would prefer that it don't see salt before I even get it.
Rain I understand, little parking lot dust ok, I can take car of that.
But residue salt is a nasty beast, that goes in every little crevice.

So a couple of things - 1 - I think we've established that dealers have little control on how/when the cars are manufactured or delivered, so don't depend on it. 2 - We'd all love enclosed delivery and if you're getting that, that's good but I'd say it's the exception and not the rule.
3 - salt away! :) http://www.amazon.com/Salt-Away-Products-Mixer-Combo-32oz/dp/B015ZL91WQ

Just talked with Ford performance 10/22 and my build week has been moved up to 11/2 from 11/16. ETA 11/26. That's good news. No stripes so maybe it will skip the body shop. He also said he heard the some will be shipped this week. Hope he's right.
Deysha ....from ford service just emailed me with my vin and how to get my window sticker. Now that is service. I don't even have to ask for this info. WOW.
Deysha if you read this you are special In my book.

I personally expect my car to be in a sealed container, shipped under vacuum. I dont even want that toxic mixture of nitrogen and oxygen we call air touching my car.

I bet the only portions for enclosed delivery will be on railcars, all other portions will be on regular open car haulers. These are not 6 figure exotic cars like the Ford GT so I don't imagine they will spend the extra on delivery
