Which would you consider is a better tire for usage in cold weather? (Near the freezing point)

Are you serious? In cold weather!? How about neither? Summer tires are useless below 50 degrees. Get all seasons. I can honestly say i cant believe this is being asked. Tell me this is a trollolololo thread

Would be dependent on where the OP is located. Given the choices, I'm assuming he is in a warmer climate. Summer tires all year in AZ, CA, NM, TX, FL, etc are great.

Read his op. He said near freezing point. Near is well below 50.

At near freezing temps those tires will be very hard and have exceptionally poor traction. If you'll be driving your car in actual winter conditions you really should buy tires intended for those temperatures.

In cold weather the MPSS is better, but when the area is near freezing or freezing no real tire will work perfectly , possibly winter dedicated but even those have a limit.

I used PSS on my BMW M6 in Seattle winter. Was fine above freezing and in cold rain. Just drive carefully and obviously don't take it on snow or ice....

The stock Pirellis on the Stang are hopeless below 50. I love sliding about in 'em though.
However, all seasons and if you live in snowy areas winter tires are the sensible choice. I just don't see myself changing wheels twice a year, too much of a PITA and not entirely sure how good performance all seasons compare vs the PSS. It's a performance car and I don't want to sacrifice handling.....also, I have an AWD SUV for really cold days....

What is with the over reaction? I have run drag radials into the teens without problems.

Conti DW in sub freezing, close to zero degrees and worked fine on dry pavement. Driven in 36 degree rain with no trouble. Only Pirelli summer tires suffer in cold weather to the point of being dangerous.
