Heh . . . too close was about 0.020" on one side with one specific wheel & tire, where I did get a little tire rub. Solved with a spacer cut from 0.025" sheet aluminum.

Are these tires hugely stretched or is it just the picture angle?

It's a max-recommended width fitment - 285/35 Michelin PSS on 18 x 11 Forgestar F14's - and since mounting tires on wheels any wider than "measuring width" is technically stretched they are in a state of mild stretch. Here, I needed lateral tire flex to be held to an absolute minimum, never mind that improving the cornering response is something I'm usually chasing.

It's the same tire section (285/35) and wheel width as the Camaro 1LE uses for their rear setup, except mine is in 18" instead of 20".


I am aware that many people don't particularly care for the way it ends up looking, and I have a pretty good idea why that is.

Here's an overall view. All of the tire tread is under the sheet metal , just barely. Having about -2° camber is helping (and it's maybe a good thing that I'm not particularly interested in lowering the car much more than maybe half an inch).

My whole issue is I want the wider tire to get he grip that accompanies it, and I want to be able to rotate the tires as well. And if 285 is all I can go on 20's than that's what it's going to have to be unless I get gt350 fenders when they are available, and I'm sure those are going to be astronomical in price.

And the wheels I want are readily available and I'm suprised I haven't seen them on anyone's car yet. they are just the downforce wheels 20x10 that you can get from LMR.

At this point I'm chomping at the bit for Koni to release their shocks so I can have ground control prototype me some coilovers sleeves.

Just under 1200.00 a piece.

I am also looking to do a square tire setup, just in 19's.

The whole front of the GT350 is different, you can't just buy the fenders. I wish it were that easy. I'm sure someone will offer a GT350 style width fender with venting at some point in the aftermarket though.

They do mostly fit. Same guy I got access to GT350 seats has one. He test fitted it, then donated it to a company to make some.

He just didn't want to mess with slight differences trying to fit the stock GT bumper cover.

Mostly fitting isn't fitting though. The hood, bumper and fenders are all different. Sure you could hack up some stuff and make it work but I would hope most of us are past the days of stuff half ass fitting and being ok with it. Once someone develops a fender that mates up EXACTLY the way OEM one does that's wider with venting I think that's an option, but until then mostly fitting isn't going to cut it.

There is this consideration the the front end is 2 inches lower through out. Simply not the case. The components are very similar. The mount to BIW provisions the exact same way.

People will likely make something. However OEM fit and finish is very diffuclt in low volume while being affordable depending on material and mold considerations.

This being said I am currently looking into making GT350 style components for regular mustangs in Carbon Fiber with a coworker who came from the industry; and has made S550 parts for other customers in Carbon Fiber.

It shouldn't be that hard to match Ford's fit and finish, it isn't that great to begin with. :lol:

But in all seriousness if someone can make some true CF parts (not all fiberglass with a sheet of CF for the look over top) I think there would be a good market for it. I don't like most of the GT350 front end from a styling stand point but I love the fenders and would give me some more room just to be safe on my 285's.
