My current car is an A Class AMG Sport. The first car I have ever brought in Automatic and will be the last. I appreciate that a Mustang Auto would be a completely different beast but this A Class has just proved something I kind of already know, auto is just not me!

I only brought the A Class as to tie me over to the Mustang coming last spring!!! So have been in it a little longer than I expected.
Thats surprising. i had a 350 SLK with the AMG box (assuming same gear box) and it was wonderful!

Very split views over the auto/manual choice. I've had several of each in various cars. I currently drive a Saab 93 turbo with an auto box, probably the best out of all Ive had but it is still from that era where the auto takes the edge performance. that said, even with only 175bhp it still feels pretty responsive. I do get those moments on a long country drive where I think I'd love a manual, but in traffic it is a no contest. If economy and performance is at least matched by the auto - even better. It's the only part of the car I'm buying with my head. I appreciate that some also like the more 'American' experience of an auto. What I love about the old 3 speed autos is that gentle swell of power resonated by the steady V8 burble - that, however will be lost with the modern 6 speed auto. Shame that a costly trip to the US is the only way to try out the various configurations.

New autos with paddle shifters kill manuals. Add a high stall and you just can't beat it.

I would have preferred the auto but on the EB the jump in emissions and poorer mileage just hurt my Scottish pocket too much :-) - funny that it reverses in the 5.0 though? Lower emissions and better mpg - so if I had the stones (and wallet and shares in a petrol station) to go for the 5 then it would have been the auto for me.

Last 2 cars auto. So I predictably chose manual.
1st was E60 5.0 M5. Not a great box. 2nd was 330 D M sport. Great box.
But mustang has to be manual. It's not my daily drive and more of a toy to keep for ever....

I think the V8 to Ecoboost split is amazing.
Ford must have done their reseach and thought that the needed to introduce a 'sensible' engine to sell the car in Europe and then us mad idiots go and order V8s about 4 to 1.
I wonder if it will change, with the enthusiasts ordering the V8s before the cars hitting the showroom and the more normal people order Ecoboosts once they are on show.
I think Ecoboost sales will come when the cars are visible in the UK and in the showrooms. I was on the verge of ordering an EB coupe to be my DD but my circumstances changed enabling me to have 2 cars so I've got a Mondeo (which is superb but might change for an Edge when they arrive from the States) for DD and the Mustang can now be a summer grand tourer therefore V8 convertible in Race Red. The 4 to 1 split amongst the initial orders doesn't surprise me as we are all nutters who have waited for ever for a rhd Mustang and are prepared to bet up to ÂŁ40k on a car we hadn't seen or driven - i.e. not your average car buyer. For me auto fits the overall package I've gone for and when journeys regularly involve long stop/start sections of M25 etc, it's a no brainer.

I am surprised at the split as well, my first thoughts were that the EB might closer to say 40% of the total, V8 would always be more popular, especially with the first batch. But like you say, the EB sales will probably start to creep up once they are actually available to buy over here. As we get closer to delivery day, I find myself more & more wanting the V8 but I just can't :( my current annual mileage is over 15k I would have to fill up every other day lol, if anyone wants to test drive my EB & allow me to take a V8 for a spin I'm game ;)

V8 manual fastback for me. Glad to see im with the consensus. I know everybody is different but a Mustang in auto just doesn't make sense to me. A Mustang is supposed to be about raw uncomplicated performance, that's its niche.

The rear quarter looks good without the glass in. I like the body coloured 'B" pillar that you get in the older models. If I can get a good colour match, i might have a go at reinstating it with vinyl

In the Mustang UK brochure it shows the cupholders being on the left side so I assume the handbrake is on the right.
