Arrived today from CJ Pony Parts together with some interior LED bulbs.

Don't think we in EU have to mount the K-Brace on the GT, but it came as a package so unable to deselect it.

Hmm, car shampoo, rinse, dry, drive...

I might get a bit more involved with the Stang but it won't become an obsession :)
:headbang::headbang:

Never done anything more but then again I'm not doing concourse shows! It was bad enough when we did the dog shows years ago - hours of prep in the dogs! Last thing I want to do it spend 6 hours working on a car to then drive it for 20 mins through the rain and muck and notice a small area is dirty and have to clean it all again - could become very OCD about it.

I do admire those people that take the time (chap across the road is fanatical about his motorbikes and they are always gleaming) and their cars do look good when you see them next to yours.

Might be tempted to try a paint protector/wax thingy - but I don't know if the claying is for me.

TBH I just use dirt cheap "Wash and Wax" car shampoo, a brush to clean between the wheel spokes, some microfibre cloths to dry and some spray can tyre and bumper shine. :)

I never need to wax or polish the car other than the few times I've needed to buff out light scratches. It always comes out gleaming and it only takes around an hour to do from top to bottom. Vacuum the inside and buff the plastics with another microfibre and voilĂ .

EDIT: Went outside and got a photo for reference. Bit overcast but you get the idea. For non-show purposes its brilliant what can be achieved with cheap shampoo.

This was washed 4 days ago.

Nice motor...always admired that Kia - don't see many about. I think you have it easy with a white car though! I have a black car currently & although they look stunning when clean, they are hard work & the paint does need to be looked after.

This is the kind of thing that I don't like, the "swirl marks". There is nothing worse than seeing a nice car that has just been washed only to get up close & see this!

I put quite a bit of effort in to mine; rinse, wash, rinse again, polish windows, give the wheels a good scrub then polish/wax the paintwork - a must for black cars to get rid of the water marks! That's before I hit the inside! Takes me bout 3 hours all in all.

Have been reading up about car detailing & I will be upping my game. There was on old thread on detailing here somewhere, I will resurrect it & post my new learnings on there for those that are interested! I will also be asking my dealer not to wash my car so I can do it properly; snow foam cannon, clay bar, polish, wax etc.

I'm just one of those guys that enjoys it, and would quite happily spend a whole day doing it :)

Dad gave me a good tip which works perfectly with his metallic black 62-Reg Qashqai - don't wash in circles. You end up grabbing grit from one area of the car and moving around an isolated area, hence why the scratches look circular.

Always move the sponge in straight lines from front to back and don't go back over yourself and wash the sponge in a separate bucket with clean water. You'll then need to clay your car much less if at all. Just give it a good wax and you'll be dandy, or go over it again with wash-and-wax.

When my Brother-In-Law gets his ML63 washed its what the lads down at hand wash do. Even after driving thousands of the miles around the country and shoving his rifles in the back for competitions in the middle of muddy fields, his car remains forecourt ready.

I'm another one who will be 'upping my game' when it comes to the cleaning. Not least because it's going to be black (what am I letting myself in for!).

Decided I'm going to get a professional 'new car detail' and paint sealant applied when I first get it.

I've always found water marks to be a pain and am considering one of those water filters you attach to the hosepipe (e.g. Aqua Gleam). If this works, it'll mean not having to dry the car with a towel, hopefully helping to keep the swirl marks at bay.

I used to actually enjoy cleaning/waxing my car, but I must admit, not nowadays. Just too time consuming. I wonder if they'll bring out a detailing product that'll stop tiresome passers-by and their hilarious "you can wash mine when you've finished" comments.

I'm dreading it myself, I may have to buy some decent wax to cope with it. I used to have a black Nissan Juke a few years ago and I only just managed to keep that looking pretty decent - but the Mustang being a larger car will probably need a lot more TLC.

  • "Fifty Quid!"
  • give them the V
  • "F**k you"
  • Spray them with the hose whilst appearing completely deadpan and unamused by their actions

 At all the above. The opportunity to lovingly go over your new pride and joy, at least six or seven times and make it look stunning, is one which I relish.

You'll know that you've 'upped your game', when you find yourself washing it in the rain  (I've been known to do this!!)

The neighbours will be consumed with jealousy anyway and will have stopped talking to you from day one of ownership! That's when you stick on the new loud as f*ck exhaust and start going for drives at five in the morning on a Saturday, not far, just up and down the drive :headbang:

Re the watermarks, just get the car dried off a bit quicker, no need for any filters, at least not here in Hoop Hoo land :clap2:

Back to the mods discussion - you do know those of you that are taking the ford options route that you will not be able to mod the car less you can put it back to factory spec when you hand it back at the end of the agreement.

Just set the miles per anum to 18,000. The GMFV will drop like a stone so it wont cost much to buy it at the end of the agreement. ;) If you've sunk (or will sink) money into it modifying it, it'll be worth doing.

Not as crazy as it sounds, rainwater doesn't (tend to) leave water spots, so a perfect finish.

Regarding the finance - If you're definitely going to be keeping the car, I think it works out a bit cheaper if you do straight finance. Although the monthly payments are mortgage sized! I think 'handing back' would be the appeal of a PCP to me. I wouldn't worry about depreciation/selling on, or crippling repair bills, let alone agonise over swirl marks!

But if you increase the miles won't they just increase the monthly fees by the same amount?

Usually does. Plus if you are handing it back don't you have to 'un-mod' the car and put it back to original state?

Plus what does the new exhaust, supercharger, chip-mod, wheels etc do to your insurance? Never having changed a car from new I was under the impression that every change had to be notified and probs increases your premium to boy racer level? Anyone got any experience on this? Might be worth knowing on the finance side esp if you are going down the hand it back route or if you are buying it and modding it and then getting a fright with the insurance premium.
