Daycare is closed today and tomorrow, and since I have the ability to work from home on occasion, I am "working" from home and taking care of our 18 month old.
Doing so all day, without the help of my wife, is a bit challenging, so i am looking for ideas to keep her engaged and entertained while I at least try to do some work simultaneously. I don't want to just park her in front of the TV to watch Disney cartoons all day.
What works for others with young children?

This as much as you would like to get work done it's going to be hard. Another option is to sit the kid in front of learning programs or a little time on a tablet with learning apps like ABCmouse or something that will engage and teach. Figure maybe 15-20 mins learning time with tv/tablet every hour and the rest one on one time with you. That way you can get some work done.

Get the Hot Wheels Mustangs out!

What, you mean that's not work? :p

On a serious note, there's not much that will keep an 18 month old occupied on her own.........she's going to want your attention!

come to realize this myself in the past year or two. I couldn't stand children, especially younger ones. But once you just relax and play with them, its extremely therapeutic.

Oh god, am I MATURING?! No. We cant allow that.

just give some time and use the tv as filler when you got to do something with work. They just need something to occupy themselves with while you get work done.

Thanks for the advice, and you are all correct.
Today I learned that working from home and taking care of/entertaining a toddler are mutually exclusive, except during nap time.
An exhausting day, and I get to do it all over again tomorrow! At least the baby is awesome and fun, if not demanding.
