Perhaps dumb, but a serious question.

Can you tell if someone has used Track Apps? Or line lock, or any other related racing-type things I know nothing about? (It is just my DD)
Dropped my car off for stereo component install over the weekend and, by calculation of the odometer (kept track of it), it was taken on a little joyride (40 miles used). I called the installer out on the miles used (by text) and am awaiting a reply.

And I am not feeling up to providing further details at this time as I am a bit perturbed and upset right now, sorry. Hope you understand. Thank you.

Not that I'm aware of. You can look for signs of abuse like treadwear, rubber in the wheel wells, brake odor, burning rubber odor, that type of thing.

Maybe if you took it to the dealer they can tell... but that could be even worse as they could void your warranty.

I don't think you can. But looks like you have a dash cam? Did you check it to see what actually happened? You should be able to tell from that if they Track App'd.

He installed the dash cam.

I am afraid to bring it to the dealer because isn't there some clause about a voided warranty if you use the car in a certain way?

See my "Valet Mode" thread for bringing your car into the dealer:

http://www.mustang6g.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24601

It won't stop all forms of abuse, but it'll limit their speed to 100km/h, annoying dings at 75km/h or more, cannot turn off TCS or stabilitrac, cannot use sport mode, and radio volume does not go over 40%.

My dealer always gets the MyKey. I don't trust the techs.

Another option is to reset your accelerometer data before you bring it in to the shop. You can't stop them from resetting it when they are done with it, but it's at least something.

Here's how I stop them from joyriding. I let them know up front that I logged the miles and show them a photo of the odometer when I drop it off. That usually stops them dead in their tracks! That and I give a strict no test drive warning when dropping it off. It's a shame but you just have to be a dick with most businesses these days.

I'd have to agree with this. If you know you're going to be anal about your car, it makes more sense to be up front about it so it becomes a deterrent rather than dealing with the aftermath.

I did this the last time. My test ride went from 3 miles to .3 of a mile.

should be no reason a dash cam install needs a test drive

First, as long as the car was current on maintenance (not low on oil for example), then from a functional standpoint I think your car is fine and you shouldn't worry about long term damage. These cars can handle track days just fine, so as long as they didn't cause any body damage, you should be fine.

Sucks to know that they abused your trust though. If give the car a thorough inspection and I'd be looking for a very hefty discount on the install.

40 miles does seem excessive for a dash cam "test drive".

Good luck, but also try not to worry too much about the situation. As long as the car is still in good shape, it's not worth getting angry about (they don't need to know that though). Of course if they did cause damage then it's a different story.
