I'm not disagreeing, but people are VERY hypocritical. If the shoe was on the other foot and they were the one holding a rare item for sale 99% would take every penny they could possibly get that was offered. It's human nature, and people are pure hypocrites which is the most disgusting part of this argument. I hate fake people/phonies.All the examples are different, obviously, but they have one thing in common - taking advantage of an artificial or temporary scarcity to make a quick buck.
There have been many non car luxury items that were initially rare. Remember the Nintendo Wii? Every time it was individuals trying to make a few extra bucks on ebay. NEVER a retailer. Gamestop, Best Buy, every retailer sold at msrp. It was always individuals that gouged. Businesses simply didn't do it. It simply wasn't worth the bad publicity to make a few extra dollars.
I'll openly admit if I had a GT350 right now I paid $50k MSRP and was selling it for $60k and and someone offered me $65k I wouldn't think twice to take the money. It's not dishonest at all, the sticker price is very openly known, and if I want to sell it for more than sticker and someone wants to offer more that's their prerogative is it not?
Here's another example. I'm a lawyer and some lawyers here in the South FL area do very specific/rare areas of law that not many do. They charge a premium hourly for their services because not many others do it- lets say $600/hour instead of the market $300/hour average. Are they not entitled to demand "over market" for their rare service? And if someone wants to pay it for that rarity then they are a bad person now?
Rarity can command a higher asking price. This is mere butthurt by people who can't find a MSRP deal and are butthurt the dealership won't sell to them at MSRP and are asking an ADM. Again, if the shoe was on the other foot it'd be a very different set of morals being displayed. Bottom line you want one of the first batch be prepared to shell out an ADM most likely. If you can wait for the 2nd batch or 2017, you can likely get one at MSRP. Pay to play early.
I can name a multitude of cars over the last 30 years that were sold over sticker when they first came out due to low volume available at first; and not even one's built in small scales like the GT350 is. Especially import brands back in the day when import was much slower.
Well said. What floors me is most of the people who complain about the car having an ADM would find a reason to not purchase it any. If half the people were offered the vehicle at MSRP they still wouldn't purchase it. I don't get the point in post after post complaining about dealers and ADM's. There are literally thousands of posts about nothing but that. Buying a car first of all comes down to more than just price. Secondly if someone has the money to pay 5k more over sticker and it makes them happy good for them. Congratulate them, tell them they bought a great car, and then keep your opinion to yourself if it's really that negative.
