I was bored yesterday so I decided to rotate my tires since I've put over 6,000 HARD miles on them including some track burnouts. Everything was going smooth until I saw this! Some POS appearantly tried to steel my PP wheels and realized they didn't have the right tool because the locks on one of wheels are all scraped up from someone using something that didn't fit. Only the locks on one wheel are like that so they must have given up. I have no idea when this happened so now I'm paranoid

Anyone got some suggestions for better locks that are also black?

I still hate how there's jerks out there willing to steal from someone else to make a few quick dollars. I'm going to install gorilla black wheel locks on the first day.

Problem is you can buy a spline drive/wheel lock key anywhere. Under $10 on amazon or any auto parts store.

Anyone who wants the wheels will get them.

Black PP wheels are going to be targeted by wheel thieves. Summer tires. Black rims = quick profit.

Glad your wheels weren't stolen. I'd try to figure out if they did this at your work or at home. If at your home, make sure you put in some cameras and honestly I'd burn the midnight oil a few times over the next few weeks to see if these idiots come back. Also look for people who are sorta 'cruisin' your area...usually they are scoping out houses or cars. If they don't look like they belong there they probably don't.

True, but most crooks are opportunist and have poor decision making skills.

That's why they are crooks and not doctors. Most of them can be defeated with the bullshit wheel locks you get from Autozone.

Well with your logic, you should just leave your car unlocked, leave the keys in and just hand it to them...because you know if they want your car they'll get it... right?

The point is that the more obstacles you put in front of a thief, the less likely they are going to proceed and move onto a easier target.

Again point being you can buy a key lock online or Autozone anywhere; or just tap a tight socket on with a hammer. You can't buy a key or key fob. Irrelevant example.

Wheel locks are a false sense of security and will only deter basic thugs in ghetto neighborhoods. Anyone with common sense will have the right $10 tool to steal $1000+ wheels if they really want them; or just use a regular socket with youtube knowledge.

In OP's situation at night, the perp has HOURS to work on these. The basic thug was deterred for now, but they many come back with the right tool or someone else could still use basic techniques with enough time and basic sockets.

Yea I'm definitely glad I invested $32 in these basic spline locks from pep boys. I'm 90% sure this would have happened at my apartment since I park out in the open and it's the only place I'm parked long enough. I park right under my living room window so a camera may be in order.

I might get 4 internal spline locks and put one on each wheel too

Most thieves are opportunists, so these locks will defeat them. If you are looking to deter professionals, or people who have targeted your car specifically, just get a good insurance. Nothing you can really do about it if you car isn't inside... and even then.
