hey guys first time posting so me and my buddy this weekend took on the oil pump gear and sprocket job on my 2018 and we wrapped it all back together and now i have a misfire at idle on what seems to only be cyl 2 and 4 so passenger side bank and my immediate thought is that i’ve messed up the chain by a tooth or somthing if you actually drive the car it seems to drive fine with no power loss ? car is roush supercharged as well if that makes any diffrence but i also am thinking if the timing was incorrect wouldn’t cylinders 1-4 all have a miss ?

Definitely could be timing issues, if you swap the coils and plugs into a different cylinder see if the misfire follows the parts, best of luck
that’s my plan to swap them arounf but it’s weird that all cylinders aren’t missing on the passenger side and i have no timing codes but i will do that when i get the time before tearing that deep into the engine thanks for replying

If the timing is only alittle off I doubt you will get timing codes unfortunately, are you getting other codes besides the misfire?

I get it but swap the coils and plugs, make sure the blower is seated good on a clean surface so your not pulling in air someplace that the car cant see causing it to be alittle lean and misfire, check all your lines and everything you can check, then if everything is checking out ok you unfortunately know what you got to do, best of luck brotha you will get it

You can check everything you want but it seems pretty inevitable to me. Time to pull the cover back off and re-check your work.

I agree it sounds like timing but swapping plugs and coils takes a couple minutes so does just giving everything a once over

It is not plugs and coils so don't waste your time checking that if you had real misfires on two cylinders you would feel it. Do you have a SCTX4 device? plug it in and do a KAM relearn. Make sure you didn't mess up your intake tube air flow. Or is the MAF sensor in the proper angle. It sounds like an air flow issue. Make sure if you have a CAI that all the lines are tight and not sucking unmetered air. That will give you misfire codes. Use brake clean and spray all the CAI connections while the engine is running and if it revs, you have a leak.

If you messed up the chain by a tooth it seems to me that all cylinders would be affected. Are you getting any codes or are you just guessing it is cylinders 2 & 4 that are missing? Before I tore the whole thing apart again I would take it to a shop with a really good scan tool that can tell you what is really going on.

that was my thoughts exactly as well that 1-4 should be missing aswell but yeah those are the only two codes but i didn’t have a miss previous so more than likely it’s the timing but i’ll definitely report back when i figure it out this weekend

welp i know its timed incorrectly now now my question is can i just remove the tensioner and put the chain where it should be if i have the R pointing up and keyway at 12 on the passenger side cams then re install tensioner without messing with the other side ?

The last time I did a timing chain it was on a 327 Chevy engine but it's not the chain you have to adjust its putting the gears in the proper position and then installing the chain, perhaps that is what you mean but wanted to clarify that. Now it my opinion if the other side is timed correctly, and stays timed correctly after you fix the problem side, I can't see why you would have to change anything on it. Once again, I have never had my hands inside an overhead cam engine so this is just my opinion.
