It's not as bad as people think a few boltons and you are Damn close to a zl1 with less weight

Did you see the guy here that claimed a 12.55 at 113 stock down to the tires? That would be faster than posed tested times for zl1.

Either way, a tune and cold air, and good leave from the light and i think a gt could beat or at least scare the shit out of one. I suspect the zl1 would run away beyond the 1/4 though.

They're not as fast as you would think on a drag strip, but they are very comfortable and fun cars.

I was impressed with it as a car, just not as a car that races.

Since when has anything put out by a government owned body done anything it's supposed to?

Seriously (ok I was serious but you get the drift), the Camaro is so far under the bar set by the mustang and Shelby in so many ways it's pitiful. My stock 11 would run off and hide from even lightly modded camaros and the zl1 is barely faster than a gt. It carries all the way through all models. The 1le is fast on a road course but still a pile of money for what it is.

I got a buddy who is very open minded, no brand loyalty at all. He bought a 10 Camaro when they dropped. When the 11 5.0 came along, we went and drove it. His exact words where "anyone who drives both the Camaro and the Mustang and still buys the Camaro has a great big number 3 tattood on them somewhere"
Riiiiight because Ford's never borrowed money from the gov't.

GM seems determined to stay away from competing in straight line times on the Camaro.

The magnaride feature on the ZL1 wasn't exactly at the top of anyone's shopping list. They built the z/28 as the "ultimate" Camaro and went with the high end brake package instead of a supercharged LT1 that most normal people would want.

It really doesn't make sense.

I find it funny that 5.0 owners with mild bolt ons think their cars are faster than zl1s

Considering that some vendors have done bolt on/tune testing with DR's and have run 11.80's and 11.90's...I'd say it is with some measure of accuracy.

It's not at all impossible for a bolt on/tuned 5.0 to take out a stock ZL1 on a drag strip.

Same driver, both with DRs, there has yet to be a tuned 5.0 take a ZL1. Don't get me wrong I love the GT, but respectfully the cars are in two different classes. In response to the 5.0 drivers on page 1 calling a ZL1s "slow"..... I simply don't get it. A zl1 is faster than your car in every measurable acceleration statistic.

Yes, I was a camaro owner in my youth. I joined this forum today to learn more about the gt350. I'm looking for an American muscle car (z/28, gt350, c7) for the track and I stumbled upon this thread.

Dont worry we're not all living in delusion... Its just that one guy. Nobody in their right mind thinks a 5.0 is anywhere near a ZL1.

The fact that the gt is still quite competitive with 1.2L less displacement and no supercharger is amazing enough.
