If you're considering a new dash cam, this is a constantly evolving space right now, as we are starting to see the Sony Starvis 2 sensor (which is superior to olders sensors) appear in one more dash cam.

And yeah I know... you can always wait for the latest and greatest, but things do plateau out for a while in between generational change.




The first dash cam to use the Starvis 2 was the Viofo A139.




Vortex Radar's best collection of dash cams as of mid May 2023.




However, since that video was shot, a second dash cam using the new Starvis 2 sensor, the Thinkware U3000 has been released.

I'd expect more manufacturers to incorporate the new Starvis 2 sensor into their forthcoming dash cam models this year.

FYI... there is a 3rd dash cam now using the Starvis 2 sensor.
Vantrue N4 Pro (not to be mixed up with the older Vantrue N4)

I have never heard of this brand before.
Anyone have any experience with the older models?

I contacted Viofo here in Australia yesterday, asking when we might expect the rumored A229 Pro.

Thank you for reaching out to us.

The A229 Pro will be released in the middle of next month. The front
camera comes with the Sony STARVIS 2 IMX678 5MP Sensor and the rear with
Sony STARVIS 2 IMX675 5MP Sensor.

Thanks good info , i still havent bought a cam for mine and i was looking at Viofo so the newest model be a huge plus with the killer sensors front and back

No worries Pete!
I'm looking forward to Vortex Radar's review on the A229 Pro.
He's the most watchable Youtuber with these things, and quite thorough.

I have an S650 GT allocated (due ~March!), so I have time on my side to see what the various dash cam manufacturers come up with, and how they are implementing the Starvis 2 sensors.
The A229 Pro is at the top of the list right now.
