Stock 2020 PP1 auto here. Here's what i don't like about the trans:
- Harsh programmed-in shift shock when in selector is in S. Much better in Sport+.
- I prefer the S+ trans programming, especially for its creamy rev-matched downshifting. But I prefer to drive in Normal mode because of the softer Magneride setting.
- I don't like the Normal mode's hunting with prods of the throttle; they're jerky downshifts.
- My diesel Tahoe's 10sp's programming is so much smoother, even in its sport mode.

Which tuner offers the best tune for smooth sport mode upshiftsand more decisive gear selecting in Normal mode?

I don't know if you are interested, but thats one thing I read about FP power packs and tunes, is they have a really good transmission mapping along with the tune for automatic guys. this is what I read anyway, I have a manual.

Shaun at AED has the A10 dialed in. Drives great, performs great. Go e85 while at it if available in your area. That said plenty of people are happy with Lund or PBD as well.

Something I learned about tuning auto transmission is it's more about tuning the torque converter characteristics. And the use of the car. Do you drag race roll race or just a better tune for daily driving. I tune my own 6r80 using hp tuner and tips from their forum

Thanks everyone; my application is daily driving. I occasionally drive b-roads too. I never drag race, but I do want to take it to COTA. One of the most annoying characteristics that I want to exorcise is the way the trans delays and then violently PILE DRIVES the 1-2 shift in manual mode.

If you thinks that's brutal, if you haven't done it already, downshift 3-2-1 with the paddleshifters in sport mode. I felt like the car lunged so bad it was going to throw the motor out into the intersection. That's the main thing about this car I want rectified. The jerky behavior of the transmission.

I might go Lund in the near future and I'll have to go with someone eventually if I get an aftermarket converter. Just wondering how that'll work out when I eventually get a Whipple put on since technically you have to use their tuning for the car to actually be emissions compliant and their tune certainly does not account for a converter other than the stock one.

Silly question, but are you 100% sure your tranny is operating properly. Have you driven another A10 for comparison?

Cobra Jet posted a great thread on issues with the 10R80. I’ll try and find it.

Edit: Found it.

Thanks for that link!

Transmission characteristics have degraded somewhat in operation over time. These behaviors, though, have been present as annoyances since the beginning. Careful attention while driving does meliorate the worst of it.

I might try a KAM reset, but I'm more inclined to have the issues specifically addressed by a tune. That's why I'm polling all you great folks here for your experiences with various tunes and their effects on the 10R80.
