Hello all,

My car went into transit on the 13th and according to my window sticker it was supposed to be delivered via convoy which from what I've read means tractor trailer. My dealership is only an 8 hour drive from Flat Rock so I went on Ford Performance chat today to see if they could give me an update and they told me that it's being transported via rail and will arrive between the 24th and 28th. Is it a common thing for them to change shipping methods? Was happy that it was getting delivered via convoy so I didn't have to deal with all the rail dust when it arrives, but looks like I'll have to after all.

From my understanding rail means it's getting shipped via train then tractor trailer to the dealer, and convoy means 100% tractor trailer to the dealership.

No. Just about every car travels via rail to a "reasonably local" transport hub, where it is switched to a car carrier for delivery to your dealer.

"Rail" means that it's loaded onto the train at the factory railhead.
"Convoy" means that it's taken to a central railhead for loading on a train.

Could be right. Seems like it is a lot of extra work to load, unload so many times for a relatively short trip. Maybe it is actually faster if they time it right.

In the other thread where it is being discussed about the date on the WS changing. Just wanted to note that my sticker changed today when the tracker went to in transit. My guess is that it ties in somehow to when someone updates the stages and it affects the WS as well. At least in the app they use.

That makes sense. I think they're more driven by cost efficiency than time efficiency. Thy sure don't seem to have time as a priority.

Perhaps more correctly:
  • "Rail" means the car is loaded onto a train at a railhead at the plant
  • "Convoy" means the car leaves the plant by truck to another distribution center, most to rail and some to a truck transfer point if the dealer is close to the plant,

Beats the hell out of me. I haven't a clue on how the lower sticker dates work. Mine was saying "3/13" through two days ago, even though the state changed on 3/16. Yesterday it was "3/20" even though the status hasn't changed.
