Grr!

Darn birds! And I have a bird feeder!

So I washed the car and didn’t realize that there was even bird crap on the car. Not sure how long it was on the car but it did etch into the clear coat. Can’t feel the marks, but can certainly see them in the light.

Crappy picture attached...

So what are my options? After searching online for fixes and seeing numerous different options, thought I would ask here. I bought some Meguiar’s Ultimate Compound but haven’t opened it yet. Nervous about creating more of a problem... there’s also the Scratch X 2.0 available... from the Meguiar’s site, I gather the Ultimate Compound May be what I need. But, I’m not sure...

So, do I need a compound or a polish? Both?

Deep impact blue. Spot is on the hood close to the windshield. It was waxed about 2 months ago, maybe 1000 miles. Car is garage kept.

So thoughts or ideas? I don’t have a buffer so will be doing this by hand. Doesn’t have to be perfect, but almost, if you know what I mean.

Help and direction is appreciated! I’d rather do this myself and not take it to a detailing shop...

Thanks for your help!!

Have you tried spraying a quick detailer or spray wax on there, lightly agitate it and see if it wipes off? Even a little vineger might do the trick.

If that doesn't do a thing, I would first try a clay bar before you do a polish. I'm sure that's a small spot, so you should able to work it out by hand.

Thanks!

No. Haven’t tried anything yet. Maybe I’ll give that a try this morning and see what happens. Thought I’d ask first and have a plan before doing something negative.

The area is about 1 inch by 2 inches.

Thanks!

Start light (swirl remover), and work your way up to heavy (compound). No use bringing a machine gun to a knife fight.

I had a scar like that on my truck that came out with a very light swirl remover and a cutting pad, with the ortbital on a medium setting (I rarely do things like this by hand). It likely isn't etched very deep.

The best thing I've ever done is start using some sort of spray sealer during dry-off at every wash. Right now I'm using this, and love it. Nothing sticks to the cars.

Thanks!

So I went at it with my Turtle Wax Foam Away. Took about a minute and off it came! Completely gone! Guess I’ll return the Ultimate Compound!

Couldn’t see the trees through the forest I guess!

What about these things I bought? Any good or return them as well?

What does everyone use to dry their car for best results?

Thanks again! Glad I asked even if I look silly...

Here’s what worked!

Thanks again! I’m all smiles now. Guess I should get back to work...

The rule at my house: If it isn't microfiber, it doesn't touch the paint. Wash mits to drying towels, and everything in between. Anything firmer will scratch. Yes, even your softest old bath towels will scratch your clear coat....trust me. And opt out of the "wash" at the dealership.

The cheap, thin microfiber towels you find at Walmart are good for wheels, glass and interior, but invest in better ones for your paint. Even the thicker, more expensive ones at Walmart or the auto parts stores are better than the cheapies, or terry cloth. I got some of mine at theragcompany.com, but am not a fan of everything I got there. Experiment to see what works for you. Some guys swear by 'waffle weave' for drying.
I haven't tried them yet. My towels have different uses depending on how they perform in drying, wax removal, etc.

Thanks!

Yea, there were eh “expensive” ones at Walmart Canada.

Waffle weave. I’ve read something about them but never seen them. Wonder how they compare to this one? If it’s better, I’ll return this one and get that instead. I usually use a real cowhide chamois. It’s nice, but old and due for replacement.

I’ll look up some waffle weave...

theragcompany has some great towels.

Get some Eagle Edgeless 500 for when you are touching the paint.

For drying, I prefer the Pluffle which is "hybrid" waffle weave and plush
You can also try the Twistress / Griotts Garage PFM or a waffle weave like Dry me a River / JR.

You can then also go a step further and get a better quick detailer product. Turtle wax isn't the greatest. Check out Wolfgang Uber. You can dilute this to make a quick detailer, rinseless wash, and clay lube. Dilute 3oz/gallon of distilled water and you have a great spray to clean up any bird droppings and bugs.

Always be on top of the bird shit , bugs and sap because it will etch quickly in the sun...

Cbdallas, I have been wanting to try out beadmaker, would like to hear your thoughts and experience from using it. I have read and heard to use it liberally, curious as to how much your using on a full coverage. It looks like it works really well, does it hold up to the hype. Not a lot of people using it, and if they are not many talking about it.
Where are you getting it from and how is the pricing for it.
Thanks, sorry to hijack the thread

Out of the products I've used, it's my favorite. It runs about neck & Neck with GTechniq C2v3, edging it out a little for ease-of-use. Got a gallon of it from Autogeek delivered for $34.99 (15% welcome discount, with $6.95 shipping). I use about 1/4 bottle per car, and like to use it as a dry-off aid vs. applying dry. My Canyon sits outside 24/7 and this summer it typically goes 2 weeks between washes. This stuff really stands up to the sun and heat.

So far, I've tried:

Chemical Guys V7 Optical Select
GTechniq C2v3 Liquid Crystal (2nd favorite for longevity and ease of use)
Optimum Opti-Seal
Chemical Guys Black Light Hybrid
CarPro Reload
Produxa Premium (The streaking-est stuff I've ever used...had to go back over the car with Beadmaker to get the streaks out. Can't wait til it's gone).

Thanks for all the info, autogeek seems to be out of stock at the moment of course
