Received my spare tire from Automotive Authority today. They have done a well executed solution for a spare tire. The spacer is nicely done and the tire/wheel combination is perfect. Plenty of caliper clearance (about 3/8") on the front wheel. They even included the center cap with a hole in it for attaching it in the trunk. I will be working on that set-up this weekend with the jack and lug wrench I had purchased elsewhere. Good piece of mind in any case.
In the video on their website, you can hear the spare squeak pretty good when he removes it. Sounds like a tight fit. I'd imagine it needs to be pushed down pretty hard.I tried to mount this in my spare tire well but its too large. I then fully deflated the tire and its still sits up about an inch into the trunk (with nothing under it at all). If fully inflated, it won’t fit as the diameter is too large.
I sent them a note to see what’s up. But the tire has the same size noted in other pictures.
Can’t imagine that the GT350 has a smaller tire well than other Mustangs...
Maybe try a piece of thin plastic sheet (garbage bag or like the type used for covering cars in a paint shop to avoid overspray) as this will reduce friction between the tire and painted metal.I tried to mount this in my spare tire well but its too large. Good to know. Thanks for the update. Is there enough room for the factory air compressor back there as well?I conversed with Automotive Authority (the vendor) and they recommended to set the tire pressure at 32lbs, and rub the tire with soapy water before installation.
I set the pressure and rubbed the sides of the spare tire well with silicon, and it slipped right in.
Still pretty snug, but the floor is now flat.
Will have to inflate to the 61lbs after installation when used.
So I am good to go.
BTW: The vendor was instantly responsive and very helpful. Good people.
Afraid not. There is the normal room under the wheel for the standard jack & handle. But that air compressor that comes with the GT350 won’t fit — I tried.Good to know. Thanks for the update. Is there enough room for the factory air compressor back there as well?
So - just to be clear. This will fit a 350/350R if you deflate it and will fit on the staggered set up of an R with the Brembo brakes - front or rear (includes spacer)?I conversed with Automotive Authority (the vendor) and they recommended to set the tire pressure at 32lbs, and rub the tire with soapy water before installation.
