Right, and it should be the owner of the vehicle who does it. Not Joe Bubba who test drives a car he has no intention to buy (not saying that is the OP, but this happens all of the time).

You're inserting emotion where it has no place.

Hard test drives in a Coyote Mustang aren't going to hurt anything other than a bit of tire life. And, in fact, may actually help the engine bed in correctly.

It's a mechanical thing, nothing more.

We can always hope that at some point, Ford might put money on the hood to move more 2018's (but I won't hold my breath).
Oh they will, for sure. Just won't be anytime soon of course.

Come the Fall of 2018 and dealers will be begging for us to buy them at steep discounts so they can sell the 2019MY. Even moreso in 2019-2020 when the new Gen 7 car is starting to come out with speculation and info.

It's just the nature of the beast. It was the same way when the S550 came out, and look at how little you can get a new one for right now.

If you want the latest and greatest, you gotta pay.

Emotional thing huh? So I assume you are fine with letting the dealer techs hoon the shit out of your Mustang when you drop it off for service.

I mean, the car is made for that, right?

No, it's actually not. I would be pretty pissed if I went to buy a brand new car and that info wasn't disclosed -- where the disrespect comes in (and you know no sales person would ever disclose that). Continuously launching a brand new car on test drives in who-knows-what kind of conditions isn't exactly 'no big deal' to the person looking to buy it.

Of course there is an emotional aspect to it. What else could you expect from a car that has zero practicality.

You're comparing apples to business cards. Test drives happen, and it's not your car to complain about who drives it or how they drive it. Virtually every vehicle that is sold has been test driven, pretty much all of them. Not many people special order their car, they just buy them off the lot.

When it's your car, that's a whole 'nuther story. But I'd bet that some tech has hooned my car, and it's no worse for it. It makes no difference whether I hoon it, or someone else hoons it. Because, yes, they're made for it. Life happens, and as much as I love my car, it's just a car.

If you've bought off the lot, you've bought a car that's been beat on. Most test drives of Mustangs are pretty fun, and include some launches.

What about people that buy used? Jesus, what about them!!!??

A few hard runs away from a light won't hurt a thing. In fact, it would probably mean the engine has a long and healthy life. Those that baby their motors from the get-go are the ones that end up with oil burners. And those that jump on them from day 1 have no problems.
I've followed the recommended break-in with all my cars including my current 15. Lots of revs after break-in but not before other than gradually increasing max revs before 1K. Oil burning? Nope. The 12 and the 15 had a lot of high revs including rev limiter time at autocrosses. Including a bunch of autocrosses between 5K oil changes.

What is this the 1990s? No modern car requires a break in. Try again.

A hard test drive won't hurt a thing that wasn't already defective.

Ask me how many times I’ve launched my car on sticky tires? At a prepped drag strip? Now ask me how many times the same car has broke down? Come on man. With all due respect. Your sorta sounding like a chic with all the emotional stuff. When you get my age & credit rating. The salesman will throw you the keys to a ZO6 and say enjoy the test drive. They don’t even ride along. So how’s a sales men supposed to know how I drove the car?

That's fantastic, I'm happy for you. There are lots of reports of Coyotes turning into oil burners when babied from new.
