Man, I really want to hold out for the Mustang, but the 1SS 1LE is a lot of car for the money. I just don't know if I can deal with the less classy, over the top styling of the camaro at my age of 42 yrs old.
The only reason I went Mustang is because I got mine for $35k OTD with 0% APR.

If I was going to spend $42k-$45k OTD I would buy the Camaro every day of the week and twice on Sunday. The '18 Mustang definitely closes a lot of that gap though.

1LE for 40k? Even impoverished (yes, someone on C6 said people buy Mustangs because they are poor and can't afford a Camaro) perspective Mustang buyers can afford one

Back on the original topic, sort of... There is a dealer close to me with two 2018 white and black 1SS 1LE Camaros, both discounted to $41k from $46k and another with an all black one a few more miles away discounted to $42k.

Man, I really want to hold out for the Mustang, but the 1SS 1LE is a lot of car for the money. I just don't know if I can deal with the less classy, over the top styling of the camaro at my age of 42 yrs old.

For $41k, you get brembos on all 4 corners, pzero super car tires, 20 inch forged wheels with decent offsets, lowered ride height, magnetic shocks, 4 driving modes, active exhaust, lap timers, electronic limited slip, dual clutch, recaros with leather and alcantara, alcantara flat bottom steering wheel, by all accounts awesome steering, black accents including black hood, functional hood vents, 455 ft lbs and 455 HP, 12 inch digital dash, etc...

To even come close to all that, the 2018 mustang would be near if not over 50 grand given the new pricing. Still no idea what will be included in the PP2, but I doubt leather and alcantara recaros unless you get the Premium. These are 1SS by the way. The 2SS goes even further than the 1SS. Also, I doubt the mustang will see any rebates for a while.

Ugh, decisions decisions.
For me, it still comes down to what you can live with. I am guessing my car will rarely see the track, so I want something best suited for daily driving. I can't get over how ugly the Camaro is, so that little edge I would get on the track doesn't make up for the looks.

There's a reason why the Camaro is called the king of the trailer park...they spent all of their money on their car.

Spot on. The camaro has a couple of good angles on it, but overall it just doesn’t look special….almost Toyota-ish styling. The back end is utter dogshit as are the rear ¼ panels.

The fact that you cannot fit a set of golf clubs without folding down the rear seat is absolutely mind boggling. It’s right up there in cars where designers forgot to put in a usable cup-holder. Camaro guys underplay the visibility, but it really is a problem for many….not necessarily with safety but with the vehicles ambiance. Even something as mundane as a normal stoplight encounter turns into an exercise of yoga….as you’ll need to either stop far short of the light or roll into a downward dog pose to see the light.

I feel sorry for those that are caught in the “I have a bigger dick” syndrome of having to have the latest and fastest. I’ve had daily driver 10 second cars…and while they were fun, their power was utterly useless on the street. There is a reason the miata is year in and year out considered one of the best drivers cars.

This statement is spot on too!
For example, if it ever happens, I would prefer a GT500 with reasonable and usable street horsepower at a reasonable price point than some temperamental, 800 hp Alpha car.

I can see where some will have a lot more difficulty with this than others (differences in physique, seat position preferences, and general awareness of surrounding traffic). For me on a fairly recent drive in a 1SS (very brief, but pretty brisk in places) the encroachment on outward visibility was not nearly as bad as the impression you might get from various gallery pictures . . . really not enough worse than it is in my '08 GT to matter. Outward visibility in either isn't nearly as good as it was in, say, the '95 626 that we used to own - but going from a conventional FWD sedan to a ponycar that's to be expected. As easy as it was to drive, the one thing I didn't care for was the steering feel of its EPAS in 'Track Mode'. Heavy like the 'feel' is being synthesized by having too much friction in the system rather than needing a little extra effort because the steering geometry and alignment specs were performance-oriented.

Have to say I prefer the look of the Camaro to the '18 Mustang and the Camaro comes with rev matching on stick shift. If only they brought them to the UK !

The 1LE looks good in person, but yes, a bit outlandish. I still need to drive one. That's really what counts. How it feels and sounds to drive.
Then compare that to the Mustang. Mag reviews and video reviews are positive even beating out the GT350, but can't go on someone else's opinion. Will see. Also, still need to find out what is included in the PP2. The 1 LE is a lot of car for the money as is the Mustang, but the Mustang may be the pricier one now. Probably not by much so again, it comes down to how it drives.

millhouse :His Quote on high HP for the street

It is spot on. I just recently sold my 700+ RWHP 11 SHelby and bought my GT350. My Shelby was not a daily, but I drove it often enough. Besides at the track, I could not use the power. I had a great set of street tires, but even from a roll @60 I could break the rear loose. Easily. DR's are not a valid option here in S. FL because of the rain. Truly it can rain on one block and be dry 2 blocks away.

The new Camaro's are nice, I never cared for them though because literally, my head hits the roof. WITH the seat in its lowest position. The 17 styling has grown on me. I did not like the other models styling though. I will say that Chevy did a good job on the 1LE, though the ride is a bit stiff. My friend has one, and he complains about it. It does not bother him as he bought it to track, but he admits he would not daily it.

The 18 Mustang is still to be tested. Perhaps with the new PP2 package it will fair better at the track. But as I have said many times, the sticker shock of the car being the price it is will fade. Just as the 1LE are now receiving discounts, so will the Mustangs. They always do. It truly comes down to "the gotta have it now" crowd, and the "wait and see" crowd. In the end I think it will all be just fine.

Ahhh

didn't think of that they were only with LHD. That is a shame considering the price in UK for a Camaro

Yes sorry you can get it but it won't be RHD, so essentially a straight imported model. And changing gears with right hand feels weird, not to mention other problems of having to get out car at payment booths and viability on overtaking.

Your head will not hit in the 1LE. In the SS it will because of sunroof.

The 1LE looks really good in person and for the price is amazing.

Inflation and raising prices really sucks. The window sticker on my 2003 Mach1 was just under 30K. Now a loaded GT can be 2x's that. A Terminator was about 36K. I imagine this means a new GT500 will be about 70-75K before markups.
