Just saw this vid over on Scotty Kilmer's channel. Never seen anything like it before and it doesn't appear to be for sale in the US yet. However, if it's effective at actually suppressing a fire, I can say that at almost any price it'd be well worth it having seen people cooked in car fires.

Thoughts??

The reason I post this is because I was thinking about mounting a small extinguisher somewhere within my reach. Not sure where there's enough room for one though. Has anyone done this? What size extinguisher did you go with and what mount? Pics would be great!

Thanks!

Fire damage is fire damage when it comes to insurance. If my car ever catches on fire, it can just sit and burn....

My concern is for myself and my family being baked alive, not the car.

I keep one in the rear of my trunk but I guess it won't be much help if it's the rear that catches fire first...

The time spent dismounting the extinguisher and searching for the exact source of the fire would be better used to get everybody out;)

Do you have any experience with auto accidents or emergency services in general? They are called the Jaws of Life for a reason. Sometime vehicle doors don't like to open when they are mangled.

Fortunately, I have not. Therefore, a fire extinguisher is not a worthwhile investment for me. Risk management at work here

I do. 30+ years of it. Do you have any questions you would like answered?

I was reading that modern cars have a lot more plastic in the engine bay and if they catch fire, they can generate smoke and flame that much faster.

You have some serious issues. Just get out of the car if it starts burning for no apparent reason.

Almost 20 here as well.

But several in this thread don't seem to understand the point of a vehicle mounted extinguisher. Maybe you can clarify the relevance for them. Thanks!

Might want to google vehicle fire with entrapment for some enlightenment on who has the issues.

And where did I say the car starts burning "for no apparent reason"?

/s/ Nope. Just wanted to throw my weight around instead of explaining things. Much more fun to take offense and go on the attack. /s/

Most of the accidents involving fire as a result of a collision that I have been involved in, have rendered the occupants incapable of fighting said fire. The main advantage of carrying a fire extinguisher in my vehicle is being able to assist others in these situations.

I keep one in the trunk for just such emergencies. I also carry first aid equipment and pocket masks.

I have performed CPR on two separate occasions on the side of the road, both motorcycle accidents. I have delivered four babies, two without gear and now try to be prepared.

I have not come upon an auto fire with a trapped occupant who would be able to fight the fire. Car fires yes. Trapped people burning, not so much.

Your mileage may vary....
