GT350 shift knob fitment

Hey guys I just bought a gt350 shift knob from American muscle for my GT and the threads fit but I can only get 4 turns on it before the reverse lock out hits and I can't put it in reverse. Is this normal for these shift knobs?

Mine spun several times, definitely way more than 4 times before the reverse lockout was blocked.

Is it an authentic GT350 knob that's been re-tapped, or one of the GT350 "style" knobs?

If you bought the OEM GT 350 knob from AM, the thread is incorrect for the GT. I'm not sure about the GT350 "Style" knob they sell.

It's the gt350 style the threads are ok just doesn't screw down very far before the the reverse lock out gets blocked. I do have a steeda triax shifter not sure if that could be the issue

do you have the Steeda reverse lockout collar? I have the Steeda tri ax race shifter with the Steeda delrin collar, and the gt350 shift knob w/correct threads. It's a tight fit but it works. you might need to modify the leather on the inside of the shift knob to allow more room for the lockout collar to go into reverse

I bought a custom threaded one so it would fit on my GT, but I imagine if you just use some loctite you won't have to worry about it coming out. Then again 4 spins is pretty low.

Ahh, OK, mine knob is an OEM, re-tapped, on a stock shifter, that probably makes a big difference.

Heck, mine turned down so tight, I didn't even bother with any Loctite.

On mine there was a plastic ring in the shift knob that I popped out to get the knob to thread down lower.

I also had to loctite mine because at the full threaded position it was way too low for the reverse lockout.
