 because some ex FA20DET owner is going to post and argue everything I say that's shitty about the engine. I'll say how the EJ is a better engine and some angry ex Sti owner will argue how he blew up his engine. It never occurs to them that they did it wrong and followed nasiocs bullshit guide to modding. Or he'll cry it was stock and I'll have to remind him 5.0s have died stock nothing is fool proof. I have been trying to avoid posting in it. Contrary to popular belief around here I don't always want to argue and set people straight. Sometimes is tiring.
My buddies own a Subaru specialty performance shop and they wouldn't be in business if it wasn't for the EJ. The only EJ worth a damn was the EJ207. The FA is more consistent and proven reliable when it comes to modifications than the EJ. They make better power mod for mod. The EJ is old news. I put 57k on my 2015 in 2 years, modded from 15k+. I was pushing 400whp on stock turbo/block but backed it down for reliability. The one known issue the FA has though are the rods, they will bend with too much low end torque.

I have both and they are not comparable at all.
The Mustang is a smooth, quiet grand tourer (GT), with smooth power delivery, and mouth watering style.
The WRX is more of a sports car for the family, rough riding, grippy, and peaky power, with added convenience.
I like the handling of the WRX but for day to day driving, my non-PP Mustang is much more refined and comfortable.

I agree. I loved my WRX(s) but there is just a whole different level of connection between the two cars. I think I liked my Subaru mostly for the community (not NASIAC LOL). The Mustang for me just seems to be way more additive when it comes to driving it. From the sounds, the power and just the way it pushes it's self around.

I would recommend a WRX for a great, fun DD now after owning both but there is no way I could be happy going back to one if I was replacing the Mustang for another fun car. Now I will consider the next gen STi depending on what they plan on doing. If it continues to have the EJ though, no way.

And there it is. I've had 3 ej257s making over 500whp stock long block, total cumulative miles between the three was 500,000. My fourth ej didn't count, iag block. People blow Ej because they do it wrong. I'd also like to remind people I was a Subaru master tech at one point. :) FA engines have more problems then rods.

So why do many many stock 2008+ EJs knock constantly under load if they had awesome reliability? As I stated before, I am not new to engines or Subarus. I owned them since the days of the GL wagons. I don't think the bare EJ is the issue. I think it was tuned like crap stock and is prone to detonation without major changes to the fuel and control system. I can't speak from experience with the FA, but I know I will never own another 2008+ EJ equipped WRX.

Some years did have an issue. A small batch had bearing issues. Any decent amount of knock is going to kill any engine. Doesn't mean the knock issue was the engine which most people try to put it on the EJ itself.

I have a '16 eco and my buddy has a WRX both are stock and we traded for a few days. I have to say the cars feel completely different, with our two its pretty much a drivers race, of course the AWD gives the wrx a advantage, especially in the northwest where you are. If youre worried about power dont, like mustangs subarus have a insane aftermarket crowd and tunning community. So imo its whatever is more practical/fun/what you want is what you should go with.

That I would disagree with (the EJ being weak). Other than the 2008, the internals are solid. The ring lands aren't the strongest out there, but continuous detonation events will even kill workhorses like the Nissan SR20. From my experience, post 2008 EJs were the highest risk of popping. I have always been a religious datalogger. I rarely saw any knock events in the 2006-2007 WRXs, whether stock or tuned. The 2011 STI would knock even going up a small hill in 5th or 6th gear.

Didn't the 2010 and newer needs the FPR upgrade like the 2015? I forget what caused the knock sensitivity for the modded guys, I do remember it though. I just remember there was a fix.:frusty:

The biggest issue is most people like the smaller turbos which are harder on the engine since it'd hit much harder down low and everyone lugged the engines. Plus All the people using OTS maps is a big NO. Also lack of an aos.. All my 500+hp engines were on gt35 turbos.

Glad he stuck with the WRX. the STi's are old junk. The only downside to the WRX/STi as a whole is the bland body style. They look exactly like every other econobox on the road.

Yet there is ecoboosts dying left and right stock or modded. You really want to fire shots at the EJ Mr. Ecoboom owner?
