How are the ends of the sway bar supposed to be orientated with the wheels on the ground under full weight?

Should they be parallel to the ground or slightly turned up?

I have adjustable end links but just set them to the same length as the OEM ones.

Ideally, perpendicular to the strut axis when the wheels are loaded (not with wheels off). That means it'll be ~7 degrees up from parallel to the ground. The really important bit is that the links are set so there isn't preload on the bar (i.e. left side short, so it pulls the bar up and puts a constant torsional load on the bar even when going straight down the road).

Just take preload off, don't worry about the angle.

You can have a little, but probably not much unless they're bent. Bending them is not uncommon.

I'm not sure what it would feel like, or how you could tell a difference from that versus some odd alignment setting.

You can check for preload by removing one endlink connection and seeing if the bar on that side shifts. Keep in mind that even the weight of the driver in their seat can cause "preload" so a little isn't necessarily something to worry about.
