I know this has been addressed in the past, but nothing I saw recently, thought maybe there have been some improvements (in the latest SCT software).

I picked up a SCT X4, updated it to the current firmware, and my plan is to have a custom tune built by a local tuner who does terrific work.

In the interim, since it's just sitting here and my mods are pretty mild, I thought about at least installing the 93 octane tune from the canned tuning options.

I've got a catback exhaust (Solo II Thunder) and a Mishimoto intake tube (still using the paper/OEM filter). That's it.

Of course there's always a _tiny_ amount of concern over doing anything to the tuning of a car, but as canned tunes go, given my mods, is the most likely worst situation just not the best tune?

Thanks.

In a WTH moment I tossed on the canned tune, just to see it work, just used the 93 octane option, nothing else.

Startup was super smooth, dropped down to a nice idle much quicker and at least down A1A for 5 minutes it felt good, notably better than stock.

Since I had a couple of errands across town, I decided this wasn't the best time to do a trial run on an aftermarket tune, so I'm in the process of flashing it back to the stock config. :D

Until I install my CAI, I am running the SCT canned tune for 93 and stock intake and it works fine for me. Not a MASSIVE YUUUUGE difference but it's got more balls for sure. I am using an AFE dry filter but that ain't doing nothin' for it, I'm sure.

A guy in my Mustang club was shaming people with tons of mods at a drag strip on a totally stock car with just the SCT tune on regular 20" wheel stock tires. He got a 12.8 and that same day I couldn't pull off more than a 13.4 haha. I suck at launching tho.

Just curious, was he driving an auto or manual?

Also has the X4 canned tunes added a GT350 CAI option?

If not, what canned CAI option on the X4 would work for the GT350 CAI?

He had a stick - I remember asking him how he launches without wheel hop or spin (before I ever modified my suspension one bit). The X4 doesn't have a canned tune specific to the GT350 CAI. I hadn't installed mine until last night, actually. The X4 has a tune for an aftermarket CAI "in general" but the GT350 CAI has a different MAF sensor apparently, so I'm not sure if you could even use that.

Just a few options, and this should be the latest firmware:

- Stock
- JLT
- Airaid MRX

I think there was one more, I'll have to plugin my X4 to see what it is.

I used a Steeda tune with their CAI and it made a world of difference. Making pulls is so much more exciting the way the car delivers the power now.

Great! I love takeoff stuff finding a home, glad I could help.

The tune was provided by Torrie from Unleashed Tuning, right here in St. Augustine. I know there's a lot of very reputable tuners around, but he's very good, just did a GT with amazing results, and it's hard to beat a shop that's only a 15 minute drive.

Torrie already completed it? A little more peppy down low huh? :headbang:
Yeah, the off idle, feels more like 2.5-3K in terms of power, then the power comes on big at 4K, but then at like 5-5.5K it ramps up again to about 7200RPM (I'm set for 7400 cutoff).

It's so noticeable, I have to think it's a pretty stout increase across the board.

There is nothing wrong with canned tunes. They make a world of a difference over stock. I've used canned tunes many times in the past and I've never been disappointed. WHen the time came I've always switched to custom tunes tho. But when you think about it, most of these custom tuners, unless you datalog and they actually revise the original tune they send you, it is still quite literally a canned tune...since that will probably be the same tune someone else if they got it from the same tuner and it wasn't datalogged and revised.

Also canned tunes on these cars as far as I know can't adjust the throttle percentage. Custom tuners can. So some of what you're feeling is simply faster throttle response.
