The S197 Mustang was prone to snapping wheel studs after many hot wheel changes at the track. A lot of owners that tracked their cars swapped out the studs accordingly.

I haven't heard of any S550s sapping wheel studs like the S197s - or any for that matter. Since the studs are larger, I'm not convinced it's really an issue with the new chassis.

That's all fine and dandy. But these are ARP studs and they are 3" long and the same knurl and 14mm diameter like stock. If your tracking or drag racing you need longer studs. Especially if your running spacers and or aftermarket wheels.

Um, nope. The stock studs are long enough. I am running aftermarket wheels but not spacers (also not necessary). So no thanks.

All parts can fail, regular stud maint. is important, along with proper wheel fitment and torque.

Um so am I. And this isn't just about you! Others have needed and wanted arp studs. Stop being selfish. And if you have a GT350R, you already have longer studs compared to non GT350R's. Get my point??
If you don't think the ARP studs are better that's fine, stick with the stock ones. But for people who don't want broken studs and of need longer ones ARP makes the best.

Scott, relax. I was just asking if folks were having issues with the studs on the new cars. Don't take it so personal.

Tommy, thanks for addressing my question.

LOL We are all friends here, written words can come across differently than spoken ones

There is another member who experienced stock stud failures on a GT driving down the highway, on the rear wheels. He discovered the issue causing it but although the 14mm are much beefier they can still fail when operated out of their design window.

Lol I'm not taking it personal. I was simply saying because we might not need them doesn't mean others don't.
It's all good.

Proper torquing is important but the bigger studs on the S550 should be a lot sturdier.

All good here too Gents - thanks.

I was just curious if this was something to watch out for or just a nice-to-have-upgrade if the opportunity arose. Thanks again.

how hard is it to swap studs on a s550? i remember back in my s197 days you could get new front hubs with extended studs already installed...
