If you wait, you will actually be getting the 2018 model after June 2017. At this stage no one knows what the refresh design looks like yet. So it may be good to jump the line if you really are set on the current look.
Although the cars we get are built roughly three months before they arrive in Oz, so if Job One stays 1st June (which it may or may not), people receiving cars from Sept onwards would be getting the refresh.

I agree.

My car was built June 20th and arrived on the ship August 30, so your general guidance is spot on

If its got sync 3 (which they have been coming in for some time now) its a MY18, which started production at the start of June.

No mate nothing at all. When I got the call on Friday it was the first correspondence i've had since making my order of anything to actually do with my order and naturally at first I assumed it may be my NSC number they were giving me. To say I was shocked when he told me I had a chance at getting a car early would be an understatement.

Wow I just got a call from the dealership, Ford AU have advised that someone's finance fell through and they can have the exact same spec vehicle ready for pickup in 5 days. Thing is, my vehicle arrives at the Docks in just over a week.

I am not sure whether to go for the offer or just wait for my actual car :) It's only a couple of weeks difference.

Are there any catch or shenanigans by the dealerships on things like this that I should be aware of?

I honestly can't see any downside.

Do what suits you.

If I were you, I'd say let me take a look at the car that they've offered, and then make a call based on your assessment as to how good or bad it is in terms of panel fit, paintwork, etc.

If the Dealer is keen for you to take it, you could be so bold as to ask for any sweeteners they might have on offer.

You're in the box seat!

Cheers for that!

That was my plan - to do a pre-delivery inspection and pull the trigger if it's all good. The thing that concerns me if this one has some minor known issues and I reject it, then wait for mine to arrive, then my one has worse problems :)

At the end of the day whichever path I chose to go I take a risk and am aware of that.

I'll most likely go for it, see what happens :)

Please ask Ford to chuck an auto into whichever car you don't want and I'll gladly take it

Good strategy. Mind you, if either car has defects it's up to Ford to fix it.

My car had a badly aligned passenger door. It sat a little too high and was catching the rubber seal when opening and closing. My Dealer booked it into a panel shot they use and they corrected it perfectly in no time flat.

Pretended he didn't have a clue... Typical dealer sales pitch...

I would be inspecting it first before solely believing a condition report, the damage could be anything from a minor scuff that is easily buffed out to panel damage.
