255/45-18 on 8" rim?

I am thinking of going wider from the stock 235/50-18 tires on my stock rims. Going to 255 width seems to be on the borderline between suggesting 8" or 8.5" wide rims. For a daily driver in the south that might see a couple of track days per year, would 255s be okay on the stock 8" rims?

I was thinking about doing the same. I actually like the stock wheels and wouldn't mind keeping them, but I want wider tires. Plus, tires for 18" wheels are so much cheaper. It seems that 255 can be done, but isn't ideal. I came across a set of OE Wheels, 18X9 and want to go with 265 width tires. http://www.oewheelsllc.com/18-Fits-Ford-174-2015-Mustang-Wheel-Matte-Black-with-a-Machined-Face-18x9 Are OE Wheels okay? They're pretty cheap. I've learned by experience that you usually get what you pay for. Is there a better option for an 18" wheel for wider tires that won't break the bank? (I want a square setup.) Also, I'd like my tires to be flush with the fenders. Is that possible with 18" wheels, or do I need to go to a bigger wheel?

You can pick up some SVE drifts in 18x9 or 18x10 from LMR. Offsets are pretty good on those. But I'm sure Paul has a ton of options.

Sub'd. Same exact boat as you: like the 18's, live in the south, want something better. For now, MPSS 245/45-18's are what I think I may end up with. When comparing what the contact patch size of a 255/45-18 tire on an 8" wheel with a 245/45-18 tire on an 8" wheel, your gain is small and I like the MPSS to any offering in the 255/45-18 range. Personal opinion.

Its very possible to do that it all depends on how much you want to invest. For instance Forgestar has a killer 18" option that you can go wide and their under the $1500 mark. There is also SVE as stated above and depending on your specific platform TSW works great also.

275 on a 8.5 your gunna buldge alot . i had 255/35 on a 9 and it fit perfect and a 275/35 on a 9.5..and was nice fit

think that would be pushing it on a 8.5.. unless you like buldge on a 8.5 rim

Well stock comes with 255/40/19 but I wanted to go a little wider. What do you think of 265/40/19?
