With all due respect, quote the whole thing. I mentioned that the The Michelin SuperSports that come with the GT350 work good until you build more speed due to the weight and braking power.

The Michelin SuperSports are a great street tire but limits are achieved quickly on the track.

The stock MPSS tires are good, really good but up to a skill level limit. Mike is an advanced driver (actually an Instructor) and for his track skills & experience, the MPSS has a threshold or limitations (i.e. grip, high speed G's, etc.). This is why for fast drivers like him, the Cup 2's (or R comps or slicks) is better suited and he's able to push the 350 a notch or two higher. Sebring has many high speed sections and sticky tires is key.

I think that's the context he's implying here in regards to not particularly working well on the track.... I experienced the same when I transitioned from the stock MPSS to Cup 2 tires on my C7 Z06. Big difference.

Pilot Super Sports are a great tire and just about the best jack of all trades but there's better. My R-S3's were confusingly good on Road America. They love heat and yet I was running on a very cold day, 50 - 55 degrees F.

Not to nitpick, but short of various snippets throughout, this was the comment.



The SS are are great all around tire that far exceed what most other dual purpose tires could ever wish for on the track. They are no Cup2, we all know that, but they are very well matched to this car.

Best tire tires IMO are the Nitto NT01.

Interesting. I suspect the car would be a little more fun on less squirmy tires. On the other hand, I'm guessing the gt350 with some sticky tires can do high teens or definitely low 20's if driven in anger. And that's some pretty hairy speed without safety equipment. I'm just thinking lower grip can still be fun and have a speed limiting benefit when not racing. But I get the desire for more grip regardless. That never ends.

High teens at Sebring in a stock 350 or R is a tall & risky task. That's like GT3RS level pushed hard at least 9/10ths. Doubt the Shelby will be clocking that even with Cup2 or R comps. Mid-low 2:20's on a pretty much stock R, could be a yes if you're zooming at mighty high speeds thru Bishop's Bend and turns 17 and 1. Can be hairy scary for sure. In stock form, I think a fast non-R would be towards the high 20's and an R at the mid 20's. And I'm talking about with experienced and fast drivers.

Wheels in R spec. Going to keep the PSS on until spring,
But want to upsize to 305 30 F and 315 30 R. Mostly street driving
so would folks recommend Cup 2 or maybe the upcoming
Pilot 4S?

Love Sebring, agree, if I'm pushing 10/10ths there I want
full safety set!

Since then portions have been repaved particlularly coming out of turn 5 and at the WOT racing line area at turn 6's high speed righthander bend.... it's blacktop but it's now kinda bumpy:

At that level the confidence in yourself, and the other drivers is amazing, getting on that guys ass at that speed and trying to slingshot, pretty sweet.
