I went to my dealer today to put everything in order before my car arrives in a few weeks. I know them very well, first name basis, I buy all my cars from them for my business.

I was told that they have been informed that the allocation will be 8 cars over the next 12 months, anything more than that goes into the next period.

This dealership sold over 15 cars since orders were taken, it appears unless more allocations are made the waiting time will blow out more than we have seen.

That's what my dealer said and I know him personally, which explains my insanity in buying from Port Mac when I live in Sydney. Looks like the numbers of sales will drop off - can't say I am not happy though as don't want too many mustangs on the road.

Hopefully this doesn't affect pre existing orders?

I don't know if this is actually confirmed yet. It was an option but my understanding is it would only be implemented if Ford AU failed to get an increase in allocation and that wouldn't be known until the new year. It's possibly Ford AU has received early notice that they're not going to get the increase but I guess we'll see.

A mate of mine at my dealer told me earlier this year that all Ford dealers would be getting specific allocation numbers so if they got more orders than what their allocation was they would have to find the cars somehow. His dealership was part of an Australian wide network so it wouldn't be as bad as for some smaller dealers that will have a smaller allocation.

Yep it's all changing, no more will it be just one big list everyone is on regardless of where you buy it. Pretty fukn stupid if you ask me, it will definitely turn people of purchasing them as depending where they will have massive wait times.

Seriously Ford really need to look at their marketing and sales strategy, bunch of muppets whoever runs that show, it's like they don't want to sell anything.

I'm not fussed though, got my stang, if it means less on the road then that's a good thing :-)

I had also heard this a few weeks back. Dealer advised that they were out to 2018 with their orders already. I question that but what reason do they have to lie? More likely to cost them a sale really.

I think it's a good thing, I see Mustangs everywhere. I don't want the market saturated with them, if you are looking for a car Lorbek has a 2017 Black complete with Roush exhaust, scrapes on the bonnet and swirling for a low 99,000

For what it's worth my dealer here in Canberra contacted me a month or so ago (can't remember the exact date) and let me know that my car would be delivered in the first half of next year. This was good news I was told because wait times had gone beyond 2017. I assumed he was talking about orders that were placed about the same time as mine (May 16).

Regarding the comment about too many Mustangs my observation would be that there still needs to be a critical mass of the cars on the road; so that after market suppliers think it worthwhile to develop products for the Australian market, so that Ford stock sufficient spares in Australia for smash repairer's and that we don't have blown out waiting times for repairs and replacement parts that (for other cars) would be far less.

Just a thought :)

The more the merrier IMO.

The fact that the Mustang has historically been one of the most customisable cars in the US is due in no small way to huge sales numbers making it an attractive proposition to third party developers.

Some would use that line if they think the customer is keen it may push them over the line. Get them thinking "Gee if I want one I better get on the list now". Also gives them the stance of not needing to negotiate on price "Sorry mate, these things are selling so fast supply can't keep up."

I've bought a lot of cars and I've never had trouble negotiating a deal on any of them as much as this one. One dealer I went to last weekend wanted $72k on road, not willing to move even $1 and that was with me cash deposit in hand ready to sign. Once he realised I wasn't going to do that he pretty much wanted me to leave and I was the only customer even on the lot.

Yep, had another that wanted around $67.5k and again wouldn't move from that. The guys boss over heard our conversation and said "they're entitled to make some money". Pretty sure you need to make a sale to make money. Still a lot of dealers around that are acting the way that gives car sales people the reputation they have. They haven't had to work hard to sell these and it's gone to their heads a bit IMO. Got a deal I can live with in the end but as I said, it's the hardest deal I've ever had to work on for a car.

If it does move to this allocation model you can be certain prices will go up, officially or not.

For anyone in Sydney, Macarthur Ford @ Narellan sold my GT to me at RRP (including dealer delivery of $2272).

Ordered over the phone with a 1K deposit by CC. Whole process took not more than 10 minutes. Didn't set foot inside the dealership until the day of delivery (didn't even know exactly where it was).

Can recommend my salesperson by PM if required.

My local dealership were really good with me, My GT 6 speed was $58K drive away including the $500 silver wheel option. But that was September 2015. I didn't even haggle with them, I was happy, my Ford Ranger cost more in 2013.

Other dealerships asking stupid prices only do themselves discredit. Trouble is there are a lot of dickheads out there, when you find a good dealership, stick with them.
