Stop all that doom and gloom talk before you jinx me. Two BMWs--a 2001 (bought from a guy who bought it new in the States; sold several years ago)--no problems. 2006 (still own), no major problems. All maintenance done only by the dealer.

Have had the opportunity to drive just about every mainstream German brand, and will admit that Audi is the most appealing to me, but as an owner, BMW hasn't failed me so far. So, shhhhh :gossip: lol

The rumour has it being 2007 onwards being the problem. A bit like MB and 2003-2006. ;)

Wife has a Mercedes SLK 300 and the check engine light came on once a year and they wanted 100 Euro just to clear it, needless to say she has changed dealership and they are better.

Talking about service... Ford wants their babies back once a year to keep the warranties right? I might need to bring mine by soon... unless their repairs are counted

Of course they charged for that.. I paid 230 eur about two weeks ago.

So they require you to go to them for "service" in-order to keep your warranty, but charge you for it?


In the states Ford can require the owner to maintain the vehicle to keep the warranty, but where you take it for things like oil changes or other non-warranty service doesn't void the warranty.

It does over here, I know.

Yes you pay because the check up is not warranty work. If you have a check up and there is something warranty related that is a different story. And remember in the warranty it says that after time Ford covers less of the warranty fees (don't remember the numbers off hand).

As this is my "fun" car I hardly have 1500km after 5 months and I guess I will have max 3000km a year so this means only after 5 years to go first time ... :headbonk:

Yes you pay because the check up is not warranty work. If you have a check up and there is something warranty related that is a different story. And remember in the warranty it says that after time Ford covers less of the warranty fees (don't remember the numbers off hand).

Yeah, crazy.
Not only they charge for it, but I can't go to any ford service garage. For the Mustang I have to go to a "Ford store" and there are only 13 in whole Italy. I'm lucky to have one at 70 km from me..
Also, if I ever need warranty I AM SURE they will blame that I have some mods and won't cover the repair. Even if my engine blow and I have changed the read decklid

The States are more consumer-oriented for sure!
