How to make my 2015 EB CARB certified?

Hello everyone, I have a 2015 Ecoboost Premium without the California Emissions package. I'm looking to move from Chicago to Los Angeles within the next 6-8 months.

I have a K&N air filter system I may swap with the Mishimoto for its CARB EO number, but otherwise the car is stock.

Does anyone know what else I have to do to make it carb certified? Please and thank you.

I'm in California and the main reason I sold my foxbody was because state ref tickets get really annoying. Basically mishimoto intake, electric cutout with stock exhaust, Vargas Wastegate, Lund tune and a black IC. I went with the Wagner tuning intercooler because it's the best on the market and no one can even tell it's there. Also UPR catch can is better than the mishimoto catch can BUT the mishimoto catch can looks stock as hell. My friend got a state ref ticket because of the UPR catch can.

Basically with the EB you can have a 11 second car and no cop would even know. Back in my street racing days this car would be a money maker lol

If you have more than 7500 miles on the car, then it doesn't need to have California emissions. You will still need a smog check, but if the Mishimoto intake has a CARB EO number you should be ok. (If you have a tune, you will need to reflash it to stock and drive the car for a while before doing the smog check.)

Everywhere I looked still mentioned passing emissions, but I guess they just wanted the smog test. Good to know. Thank you.

I'm almost positive we don't get smog tested for like 5 years now with these new cars

When you buy a used car or transfer even a new car into CA you will need a smog.

You'll be fine. Just have to get a smog check to complete the registration process. The drive from Chicago to Los Angeles will help to "clean out" your car so to speak.

Bought a Mazdaspeed Protege in Vegas back in 2004 and registered it here in California no problem. Passed smog only a few months back with the original catalytic converters. It's a 2003.5 model with 123,000 miles.

I wonder how I will do during smog, I have the Vargas stage 2 turbo, upr catch cans, stock exhaust minus mufflers, Adam tune, and Vargas silicone intake, and IC pipes, I'm in Cali as well .
besides tune, will I need to swap turbo, catch cans, and intake ?

California it's 6 years if I'm not mistaken for smog.

Out of state transfers require smog check in california . California is only visual and obd2 readiness. No need to sniff the tailpipe . As long as all the sensors are active and you don't have stored faults ,you are passed .

My ecoboost was 49 state only (Hawaii car) and I had to do smog when I registered my car in California.

Also, at the dmv, I had to sign a form attesting that I was a former resident of X state or else they wouldn't register the car:

Just so everyone knows,

the only difference on a stock car between a CA emissions model and a non-CA emissions model is that Ford paid the California Emissions Cabal (aka CARB) a fee to say that the car is equipped with California Emissions The emission control systems on all Ecoboost cars are 100% identical...

In states like Oregon, that require CA emissions but might roller test you, you'd pass with flying colors if you brought a brand new car in from out of state

Even in Oregon, 99% of the time you take your car in for the DEQ check (assuming you live in one of the four counties that require the DEQ test), your DEQ test consists of plugging into the computer via the OBD II port and verifying no active codes in memory. As long as it isn't doing anything obviously wrong (like not smoking, or the exhaust doesn't smell gassy), they go with the results of the code scan ;) You get a four year pass here if you buy the car brand new

CA emissions vs 49 state emissions only matters for "new" cars, which CA defines as cars with less than 7500 miles. If the car has more than this many miles then you can register it in California after a smog check regardless of whether it has CA emissions or not.

If the car has less than 7500 mile then you can't register in CA, except based on Tamadrummer88's experience it sounds like of you are a resident of another state you might still be able to register a "new" 49 state car in CA.

BTW At one time CA was charging a smog impact fee when 49 state cars were registered in CA. It was pretty expensive, like $300. This smog impact fee was struck down by the courts on the basis that it was a barrier to free trade between states and thus unconstitutional.
