Curbed Rim, Best Option?

So, this morning I took a corner a little too sharp in traffic and scraped about 1/4 of the lip of my rear passenger side rim. I have a friend with a body shop that said he thinks its about $140 to repair it. I guess I could ping some junk yards to see if there are any out there. Do you all think its worth repairing or should I try to find a take off somewhere?

LOL, thumbs up for the laugh. Looking around a real rim is about $400 it looks like. I guess I'll let the guy repair for about $140, seems relatively reasonable.

Repros from American Muscle (I think that's the vendor) are like $150 each.

... or find a used, OEM wheel, again, probably the same price as a repair, and keep your old wheel for a backup.

It happens. I did it right after I got my Velgens. It was really due to laziness. I could have backed up a little but instead was like screw it I'm fine... not realizing that I do have wheels that extend out. I just took a black sharpy and covered it up. I will eventually sand it back down and hit it with some paint. You can't even tell into you're less than a foot away.

You could take some 300 grit and 600 grit sandpaper and smooth that out and try to find a high gloss black paint to touch it up. Just mask off all the wheel that isn't damage minus a tab bit to blend into. Stuff index cards around the lip/tire to block it from getting hit with paint.

I dented a rim on another car about 10 years ago and replaced it for $140. It was something like factory wheel outlet (?) and free shipping of the dented rim back to them, something like that, it was pretty agreeable money wise.

Thanks! I'll check out the off brand ones again, just not sure how they match with existing? I can probably transfer center cap? For $150 it'd be worth it I'd think. Sanding may not be a bad option either. Really annoying since this is the first time I've ever scraped a wheel in 18 years of driving... Oh well, it could be worse!

Yea, I'll probably do that, even a touch up wouldnt be bad, I didnt really think about it. I've touched up a few spots on my car already, though I may need a little more aggressive grit for this than I used on there.

^^^ This, except use the old rim to hang air line, or in the case below, MIG welder extension cord.

Tape off the tire, and the wheel in the area below the damage. Clean area with rubbing alcohol. Then apply Bondo, sand, bondo, sand.

Then spray paint with gloss black.

The result will be very hard to see what happened.

I damaged one of my 20" Foundry wheels last year in winter (that's what I get for driving on Pirelli PZero summer tires in 30 degree temps!). The face got scraped up a good bit but apparently there was also a small crack/fracture in it somewhere so it couldn't be repaired (safely). Long story short, I did some searching online and found a place that had them "reconditioned". I was a little skeptical but since the dealer parts department wanted something like $1100 for 1 wheel, I figured it was worth a try.

I can't remember exactly but I think it was around $300, maybe a bit less. Wheel looks perfect. You absolutely can not tell the difference.

In any case, your wheel doesn't look that bad. I don't see why that couldn't easily be fixed. Around my way (Baltimore) there are quite a few wheel repair shops that would fix that. I would think $100 - $150 sounds about right.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I now have Continental DWS 06's on so I'm definitely ready for this winter! Still won't drive in the snow but at least my tires won't turn to rocks once the temp drops below 40 degrees.
