I'm with you, just 4V the damn thing with a spray bore aluminum block and supercharger already and show the "horsepower per cubic inch doesn't matter crowd" why that metric is important. Fuel is and will be cheap for a long time to come. GT500 should always be the "big block". Twins on a beefed up Coyote can do it but think of the attention a "new engine big block" GT500 will generate. Not to mention that motor with Coyote like heads and DI would blow past 550 hp NA easily, even at 5.8 liters with a dropped deck, perfect for a Mach1 engine option (remember Cobra Jet). 10 speed with a deep OD it will sip fuel in cruise mode too. Ford is making plenty off the Mustang and can afford to keep the fires stoked. They could easily handle a niche line of these things and have experience doing it. Its a no brainer and it been time for this for a long time. Give the finger to cafe nazis and make the people who love you renew their vows.So to continue with this rampant speculation. We all know the easiest way to increase power is to go with more displacement. That makes running a 5.0 or 5.2 somewhat of a longshot. Ford was already having problems running all of their extreme durability testing on the Trinity 5.8 due to the extreme heat causing issues with the exhaust valves, and it's rumored to be the reason there was no power pack for the 13-14 GT500s, it was already at the durability limit. I'd imagine that meant tuliping of the exhaust valves in their extreme testing. Again, Trinity did not meet all of Ford's extreme durability testing but the testing is so extreme it's unlikely the engine would ever see anything close to that for that many thousands of miles in the real world so the Trinity was given a pass on 1 of those tests. Add even more power and the problem would become worse.
We know Ford is gunning for 725 or more on this new one. We also know that running the 100mm bore spacing is a real handicap for increasing displacement and that Coyote doesn't have much more room for added stroke. Enter 115mm bore spacing. Ford could run 105mm bore with 84-mm stroke and get to 355.1 cubic inches (5.8 liters) AND get a block deck height down to around or just under 9-inches which is almost identical to the Coyote. For comparison the 5.4/5.8s in the 07-14 cars had a deck height over 10-inches. So this could decrease engine height by around just under 1-inch. It would be longer than the 5.4/5.8 by just under 2-inches but I don't think that's the real issue with the S550 chassis, the height is where the packaging issues arise (V6 intake clearance problem and resulting power decrease vs '14 V6).
And again with more room for coolant passages due to the increased bore spacing they could flow more fluid volume around those exhaust valves to remove more heat. Hell, even if they just stuck with the standard 6.2 architecture they'd still come in shorter than the 5.8 Trinity but I think it would serve them well to shorten the stroke and chop down the deck. It's not like they aren't already having aluminum V8 blocks custom poured at the foundry. Honsel poured the 5.8 and I read somewhere the 5.2 is poured at a foundry in Canada. So it's not really a cost issue. Roush already did work with them on Don Bowles's project DOHC 6.2 so they already prototyped 115-mm bore spacing DOHC heads years ago., which lessens the work required to design production heads now. The increased bore also gives them more space for head gasket surface area between cylinders, helpful on a 725-750 horse boosted V8.
Nah i don't see that why make the Mach 1 TT V8 let me talk about my pipe dreams i would like to see a N/A 600hp Mach 1 high revving lie the 5.2 in the GT350 :cheers:The more I think about it, the more "Mach 1" comes to mind. Possibly twin turbo v8.
The next-gen Challenger will be built on the Alfa Giulia platform. But that program has been delayed until '19 or '20. And when it comes out, I sincerely doubt they'll be able to shoehorn in the Hellcat motor.I haven't looked lately, but isn't it time for a completely new Challenger platform.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Mustang_Mach_1Historically speaking where is the Mustang Line up did the Mach 1 lie?
Higher than the GT but less than the Cobra in the 2000s. What about the '70s version? Where was it in comparison?
I'm not sure but I think the Mach 1 was the mustang GT equivalent in the 70's.
At the American muscle car show yesterday at the Shelby booth they had a flyer with a mustang on it with the front end blacked out with a date above it saying 9/2/16.... Take that for what it's worth. I took a pic of it but it will not upload
Tuned GT350?At the American muscle car show yesterday at the Shelby booth they had a flyer with a mustang on it with the front end blacked out with a date above it saying 9/2/16.... Take that for what it's worth. I took a pic of it but it will not upload
Yea.. It just has a pic of the front of a mustang which is blacked out white a bit with the date of 9/2/16Shelby American? If so, that won't be the GT500.........or at least I'd be very surprised if they were advertising a Ford Performance product.
That being said, I'd be interested to know what they're releasing on that day. Did you pick up on of the flyers?
